Werner E. Wegener

Werner Ernst Wegener, 88, of Tucson, AZ passed away on April 28, 2021.  He was born on November 25, 1932 in Hamburg, Germany to Frieda (nee Schuster) and Emil Wegener.  Werner’s father and grandfather were salt seaman and this lead to his love for the ocean.  He apprenticed in Hamburg as a marine engineer and sailed all over the world and saw many countries on cargo ships.  He immigrated to the United States in 1963 and received his citizenship and joined the Merchant Marines as an Engineer.  He worked for Bethlehem Steel and worked his way up to Chief Engineer on the MV Stewart J. Court.  In retirement, he bought a sailboat that he kept in Jekyll Island in Georgia.  Werner lived in Wildwood, IL, Georgia, Wisconsin and eventually settled in Tucson, AZ. 

Werner is survived by his daughter, Gisela (Michael) Matelski of Wildwood; his stepchildren, Dean Sheridan and Rene (William) Ganger, Jr.; his grandchildren, Derek (Sydney) Matelski, Ashley Matelski, Samantha Matelski, Zachary Matelski and Jesse Matelski; his step grandchildren, Christopher Sheridan, Ashley Sheridan, Matthew Sheridan, Sarah Sheridan and Amber Ganger; his great grandchildren, Jackson Matelski, Charlotte Matelski and Lincoln Matelski.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erika (nee Klatt) Wegener; his second wife, Monika (nee Thanheiser) Wegener; his son, Götz “Gus” Wegener; and his parents. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Oasis Church, 8961 E Tanque Verde Road, Tucson, AZ 85749.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oasis Church, 8961 E Tanque Verde Road, Tucson, AZ 85749 or the American Cancer Society.    

Lee M. Waldoch

Lee M. Waldoch, 75, a resident of Wildwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in Libertyville.  He was born on August 22, 1945 in Chicago to Edward and Ingrid Waldoch.  

Lee loved Corvettes, a good game of golf and spending time at the beaching and kayaking.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Heather Waldoch; his sister, Laura (Michael) Luisi; and his nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  A memorial service will be held privately.

Sandra L. Epping

Sandra Lynn Epping, 63, a resident of Volo and formally of Lakemoor, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at home with her family around her.  She was born June 28, 1957 in Freeport, IL to Donald and Gloria Epping.  Sandra loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.  She was a great cook and especially loved cooking for the holidays. 

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Rachel (Andrew) Pickens of Volo; her grandchildren, Madilyn, Sean and Bryn Pickens; her brother, Steve (Lynn) Epping of Freeport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donald Garrison

Donald Garrison, 81 of Grayslake, IL, passed away Thursday in his home surrounded by his loving family June 3, 2021 after a short illness with Leiomyosarcoma. He was born April 19, 1940, the son of Leldon and Grace (Sharp) Garrison of Somerville, Al.
Donald was a heavy equipment operator and developer for 64 years working in IL, WV, and AL.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years Barbara. Children: Richard Garrison, Kelly (James) Hanrahan, Kevin Garrison (Marcy), and Sarah Garrison (Andrew Glass). Sister Margaret Houser Lemmond of Somerville Alabama. Grandchildren John (Rachel) Thomas, Ashley (Chuck) Lennon, Clayton, Cameron, Delaney, Alexis, Hunter, AJ Glass, and Hayden. Great Grandchildren Zack Lennon, Christopher Thomas, and Jackson Lennon.
He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy (Dan) Nix, and his brothers Bruce, Morrow, and Jack (Nancy) Garrison.

Diane M. Goldenberg

Diane M. Goldenberg, 67, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away June 5, 2021 at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL.  She was born July 11, 1953 in Chicago, IL.  Diane was an animal lover, a wonderful mother, wife, sister and friend.  She was known as a strong fighter and putting others first.  Diane is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Goldenberg, her children Jeffrey Goldenberg and Michelle Goldenberg, and her siblings Debbie (Bill) Burgess, Jeffery Cramer, Jim (Sue) Surman, Laura (the late Rick) Riddle, the late Robert (Debbie) Surman, and Susan Knapp.  She was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Herbert Cramer, her brother Robert Surman, and her grandmother Harriett Rousch.

Betty L. Tenorio

Betty L. Tenorio, 91, a former resident of Hainesville, IL before moving to Austin, TX, passed away April 10, 2021.  She was born November 21, 1929 in Illinois to Loda and Samuel.  Betty developed a passion for Powerlifting in her early 60’s and was named NASA Athlete of the Year in 1996.  Her last competition was at the age of 75 after a battle with breast cancer, where she won her 30th Masters world record. 

Betty is survived by her daughter Candy (Neil) of Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walt “Red”, her sister-in-law Mary Jean, and her nephew Gerald “Gipper”.

John T. Snell

John T “Jack” Snell of Hebron, Illinois, passed away on June 3, 2021, of natural causes. Jack was born on February 1, 1941, in Oneida, NY to Theodore “Kelly” Snell and Wyona Theresa Stone Snell. He was the oldest of seven children which included Ronald Snell, Irene (Stickler) Snell, Jeanne (Hand) Snell, Sheila (Koski) Snell, Jerry Snell and JoAnne (Binder) Snell. Jack graduated from Stockbridge Valley High School In Munnsville, NY, and was a student at Ray Vogue School of Art in Chicago, IL. Jack traveled to Albuquerque, NM where he met and married his wife, Naomi. He and his family moved to Florida for a time and he eventually moved to Sherrill, NY where he established an independent sign company. Eventually, Jack moved to Illinois and continued with his sign shop business. He worked for a time at Great America in Gurnee, IL and, upon retirement, worked for Walmart in Lake Geneva, WI. Jack achieved a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus and was a fellow of the Moose in Johnsburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Wyona, his sister, Sheila, his brother, Jerry, and his son, Eric. Jack is survived by his daughter, Sonya, his ex-wife, Naomi, his daughter-in-law, Tracey, granddaughters, Hannah and Gwenyth, his siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. Catherine E. Rehwinkel

Catherine, 98, was born on August 26, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Katherine & Frank Lenhardt. She lived her whole life in Chicago & the surrounding suburbs, most recently in Schaumburg, IL. She entered eternal life on May 26, 2021 at the Hospice House in Elk Grove Village, IL.

She is survived by her sons: Steven & Allan Rehwinkel and her granddaughter Debra Rehwinkel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Matilda, and husband Anthony.

Steven James Mumford

Steven James Mumford, 56, a resident of Ingleside, IL passed away May 31, 2021. He was born February 9, 1965 to Robert and Elizabeth (nee Oshinski) Mumford. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Mumford Sr.; brother, Robert Mumford Jr.; sister, Susan Mumford; and nephews, Brian Berry and Chayse Mumford. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Mumford; sisters, Kathlyn (Paul Berry) Mumford, Laura Calhoun, and Linda Mumford; brothers, Kenneth (Jami) Mumford, and Edward Mumford; and many nieces and nephews.

Robin J. Rafiq

Robin J. Rafiq, 61, a resident of Antioch, IL, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Elevate Care in Waukegan, IL.  She was born March 30, 1960 in Chicago, IL to Herbert and Gloria Blitzstein.  Robin owned and operated a coffee shop and managed Pizza 911.  She was a passionate and strong-minded business woman and enjoyed helping others.  Robin is survived by her son Destiny Dickson and her grandchildren Legend and Lovelli Dickson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Congress Dickson Sr., and her brother Merle Mitchell.  A memorial visitation and service will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm with the service commencing at 1:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Lois A. DeAngelis

Lois Anne DeAngelis, 82, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away November 13, 2020 at her home.  She was born February 19, 1939 in Chicago, IL to R. Gerald E. Dostalek

Gerald “Jerry” Edward Dostalek, 83, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Gurnee, IL. He was born December 27, 1937 in Highland Park, IL to Edward and Dorothy (nee: Dean) Dostalek. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956 and attended Parsons College in Iowa where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. After graduation in 1960 he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He married his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” in 1964. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Pamela Dostalek of Elgin, IL, Patricia Dostalek of Rockford, IL and Jill (Darren) Smith of Antioch, IL; his grandchildren, Katherine, Jacob, and Brody; and his sister, Carol (Dave) Coen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy. Jerry was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed singing, dancing, fishing and golfing. Kenneth N. Steward

Kenneth N. Steward, 95, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021.  He was born on December 12, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Merle and Ethel Steward.

Billy R. Stanley Sr.

Billy R. Stanley Sr., 82, a resident of Lake Villa, passed away May 16, 2021 at Journeycare Hospice in Barrington, IL.  He was born in Kimberly, WV to on May 22, 1938.  Billy retired from Baxter Labs in 2019 after 30 plus years of service and was known as a great family man.  Billy is survived by his children Billy Stanley, Jr. and Sherry (Jeff) Ohnesorge, his grandson of Jimmy Lombardo, his brother Lawrence (Lorraine) Stanley, his sister-in-law Mary (Eddie) Edwards, his niece Carrie Marcum and his great-niece Alyson Marcum.  He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Stanley in 2011.  Friends of the family may visit at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Allen H. Schertz

Allen H. Schertz, 91, passed away on May 13, 2021.  He was born August 5, 1929 in Normal, IL to Lee and Gladys Schertz and was a native of El Paso, IL.  He graduated from the University of Illinois with a major in Political Science and did his graduate work in City Management at University of Kansas.  During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army Communications Office.  He held public management positions in Columbia, SC and Auburn, AL before moving to Libertyville, IL in 1965 as the town’s first Village Administrator, retiring in 1991. He led the village through a period of tremendous growth during the 1970s-1980s while ensuring the village remained financially solid. Upon his retirement the village board rededicated the current village hall as the Allen H. Schertz Municipal Building. He was active in service organizations, including Rotary International, the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society and served as a church Elder and Deacon.  He was a member of Hope EPC Church in Grayslake.  Allen especially enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family.  Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years Mary Beth, sons David (Nancy) and John (Jeri), six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and sisters, Phyllis Ford and Ruth Kennedy.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Robert N. Clark

Robert Neal Clark, 80, a resident of Ingleside, IL, passed away May 8, 2021 at his home.  He was born June 17, 1940 in Chicago, IL, where he grew up on the Northwest side, to Scott and Clara Clark.  He was an avid HAM Radio operator and a veteran of the US ARMY.  Bob spent 30 years working at Fort Sheridan as a civilian radio engineer.  In his spare time Bob could always be found in the garage fixing something whether it was a car or a TV usually not his own. Bob retired in 1992 and enjoyed a long retirement with Diana on Long Lake, building their dream home and rescuing as many cats as they could.  Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diana, his son Chris (Hannah) Clark of Deerfield, IL, his grandchildren Connor Clark and Maggie Loesch, and his brother Scott (Yvonne) Clark of Sun Lakes, AZ, his niece Tammy Goodman of Chandler, AZ and his nephew Todd Clark.  He was preceded in death by his parents Scott and Clara Clark.  All services were held privately and were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Ronald G. Baxley

Ronald G. Baxley was born in Plant City, Florida in 1932 to Dewey and Ollie Baxley and passed away at home in Grayslake, Illinois on May 10, 2021. He leaves behind his wife, Chorine, his sons Daniel Baxley and Andrew (Fiona) Baxley, his daughter Valerie (Eric) Powley, his grandchildren Braden, Kristen, Joe, Haley, Meghan, Jason and Matthew and great grandchildren Echo, Cooper, LeeRoy, Aurora and Maisley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Sandra, his parents, and many dear friends.

Ron went to the University of Florida and was a lifelong Gator fan. He served in Army Intelligence as a Cryptographer in Naples, Italy and was honorably discharged in 1956. Early in his radio broadcasting career, Ron was DJ “Mack Sanders,” a radio broadcaster with his own fan club who also held “record hops” for teenagers in many southern states including TX, LA, AL, GA and FL. Ron loved working in radio as a broadcaster, music director and station manager for many different radio stations in several states and also did play by play for the Atlanta Hawks basketball team and the Northwestern University Football team in Chicago. Eventually, Ron and his family moved to Illinois where the Satellite Music Network hired him as their “morning man” and he was heard on radio stations across the U.S. on the “Stardust” music format.  That job moved him to Texas in 1990, and he continued working mornings as the network was bought by ABC and then Disney. While at ABC Radio he was able to take many great trips, including broadcasting live from Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and taking several cruises with his listeners.  Ron retired in June of 1998 and spent his days fishing, cheering for (or cursing at) the Gators, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Ron moved back to Illinois to be closer to family, settling in Grayslake with Chorine.

Charles “Chuck” F. Spangenberg

Charles “Chuck” F. Spangenberg, 74, of Wildwood, Illinois, passed away on May 10, 2021 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago after battling a long illness. He was born in Evanston, to Gilmore and Augustine Spangenberg on January 11, 1947. He graduated from Grayslake High School in 1965 and then from DeVry Technical Institute before serving in the U.S. Army. Chuck was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He married Margaret “Peggy” Schwalbach in 1971. Chuck enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his life including sailing, snowmobiling, skiing, hunting, boating, and teaching his grandchildren to fish at his cabin in Lake Tomahawk. He always had a project brewing in his mind and several in the works. For all who knew him, Chuck was an avid conversationalist. He enjoyed meeting new people and traveling – both of which served him well in his career in sales in the printing industry.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy, his sister, Dorothy Aber, his children Michelle (Steve) Bratzke, Dan, and Robin (Carl) Wilson. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Jordan, Samara, Reese, Logan, Rory, Remy and Theo, nieces and nephews, and his life-long best friend, Howard Siedlecki. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard (Jean) Spangenberg, Marie Spangenberg, and Elaine Ehnert. 

Memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Captain James Lovell Federal Health Center.  His family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Frankfurt and the doctors and nursing staff at Northwestern Prentice Hospital.  A visitation, followed by a brief service, will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Christy Tola-Adefuye

Christy Tola-Adefuye, 59, a resident of Grayslake, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021.  She was born on April 24, 1962 in Ido-Ani, Nigeria. Christy and her family immigrated to the United Kingdom and from the United Kingdom to the United States, finally making Grayslake their home.  While in the UK, Christy worked in special education.  In Lake County, she was involved with youth and homeless outreach services.  She reached people globally doing the Lord’s work through Christy Tola Ministries. She was the most selfless person anyone could have met, and always gave to her community. She will be dearly missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.

Christy is survived by her husband, Dr. Adedeji Adefuye; and her children, Rilwan Adefuye, Rukayat (Kyle Proper) Adefuye, and Oluwadamisi Adefuye.

Suzanne “Sue” Hironimus

Suzanne “Sue” Hironimus, age 78, a resident of Kenosha, WI and formerly of Lake County, IL passed away Monday, May 10, 2021.  She was born September 2, 1942 in Waukegan, IL.  Sue was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Royal Order of the Moose, Lake County Assessor’s Association, Illinois Assessor’s Association, and the ABWA.  She worked as a Deputy Assessor for 34 years. 

She is survived by her children, Lynn (John) Salisbury,  Brad (Nicki) Hironimus, and Kurt (Lisa) Hironimus; grandchildren, Jenni, Austin, and Allison Salisbury; Gage, Casey, Kyle, Matt, Jason, and Abby Hironimus; great-grandchildren, Madison, Katelyn, and Lucas; her brother Roger (Judy) Kovack; her nephew Kevin (Amy) Kovack, and her niece Kristine (Bob) Kovack-Lesh.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Charlotte Kovack, her husband Lonnie Hironimus, her son Craig, and her granddaughter, Falynn. 

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 9:30am to 10:30am with a memorial mass commencing at 10:30am at St. Gilbert Catholic Church; 301 E. Belvidere Rd.; Grayslake, IL 60030.  Inurnment will follow the services at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.  All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium; 410 E.
