Edward Dyrek, 87, of Cary, IL, passed away on December 26, 2015 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mary Dyrek (nee Majkrzak). Edward was a Korean war veteran. He loved to golf and travel and was a avid Cubs and Bears fan, but most of all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. Edward is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley, they were married September 3, 1950 in Chicago, by his children Doug of Myrtle Beach, David of Chicago, Gary(Sandra) of Crystal Lake, his grandchildren Katreena, Megan, Elizabeth, Lauren, and Gregory. Edward was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents. A public visitation for Edward will be on Friday January 1. 2015 at the Strang Funeral chapel 410 E. Rosemary R. Thomas, age 86, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Journey Care Hospice Facility, in Woodstock. She was born in Chisholm, MN on December 2, 1928. She was raised in Hibbing, and moved to Chicago in 1946. Rosemary moved to Round Lake Beach in 1969. She loved quilting, sewing, and traveling with her husband in their motor home. Rosemary is survived by her children, Marina (Bill), Christina, Jim (Lori), Joseph C., Linda, Larry, and James Russell; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Mary Zalokar, her husband Joseph William “Bill”, her son John, her brothers, Albin and Edward, and her sister Francis Ranger. Mary Malley Toussaint, 101 ½ years young, of Lindenhurst, IL, formerly of Skokie, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center. She was born on May 2, 1914, in Ithaca, New York, to Austin and Helen Malley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Norbert. She was the loving mother of Mary Diane Simpson, Patricia Varco, Jeanne (John) Goshgarian, Norbert (Karen Brungard) Toussaint, Sharon (Daniel) McCarthy, and Valerie (Joseph) Nathan. She was the cherished grandmother of Daniel (Anna) Simpson, Michael (Stephanie) Simpson, Marie (Tommy Kaschke) Varco, Michael Varco, Valerie Varco, Diana Varco, Andrew Goshgarian, Anne Marie (Graham Kolb) Goshgarian, Gerard Goshgarian, Laura (Justin Hong) Goshgarian, Brian (Neha Kumar) Toussaint, Rebecca (Adam) Lowenstein, Adele (Hunter Stuart) Nathan, Joanne (Andrew Denenberg) Nathan. She was the precious great-grandmother of Eloise Simpson, Charles Simpson, Joseph Kaschke-Varco, Wesley Simpson, and Nathan Lowenstein. She is also survived by a large loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary was a proud graduate of Cornell University and held a Masters degree from Pennsylvania State University. She had a successful career with the American Dairy Council providing nutritional programs for children in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. While raising her large family, she was an active volunteer with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, her Catholic parishes, and all her children’s schools. Mary was a consummate traveler. She and her husband instilled a love of travel in their children as they crossed the country on long road trips. In her later years, she enjoyed cruises and European trips with her cousin Frances.

Mary spent the last fourteen years of her life as a resident of the Village of Victory Lakes. There she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including volunteering at B. J. Hooper School and at Allendale, serving as a member of the Residents’ Council, playing bridge, and singing with the Vocaleers.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, November 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6401 Gages Lake Road, in Gurnee, with a gathering at 9:30 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. This will be followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Franciscan Communities’ Helping Hands Program or the charity of your choice.

Patricia Joan Raia, age 77, a resident of Lake Villa, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was on May 7, 1938 in Chicago to Henry and Sophie (nee Beller) Schneider. She was a parishioner at St. Gilberts Church. Patricia enjoyed shopping, gardening and life. But, she really loved spending time with friends and family. Survivors include her husband, John, whom she married 58 years ago on April 28, 1957 in Chicago; her children, Michelle (Brian) Curtin of Lake Villa and John (Barb) of Wildwood. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert. Edward J. Sychta, 92, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home in Grayslake. He was born July 9, 1923 in Chicago to Joseph and Lottie (nee: Urbanski) Sychta. Edward was a World War II veteran. He was a long standing President of the Vernon Hills Seniors Organization, he enjoyed the casino, but most of all he loved all of the family gatherings and being with his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Victoria, whom he wed on January 28, 1950 in Chicago, his children Susan (Martin) Gallegos-Sychta of Berwyn, Margaret (Kimbrough) Clarke of Lake Villa, Mercedes (Jerome) Balcer of Palatine, and James (Sharon) Sychta of Batavia, his grandchildren Nina (Alex) Larson, Scott, Madeline, Cassandra, Claire, and Trevor, and his one great-grandson Colton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steve, and his sister Bernice.
