Elsie J. Bjerklund, 88, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was born July 1, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Jasper and Eline Nelson. Elsie enjoyed crafting and sewing on many different projects. She had worked as a Registered Nurse at Lutheran General Hospital for 35 years. Elsie was the wife of Gunnar for 37 years, mother of Allan (Kathy) Barnett, Bruce (Carol) Barnett, Cheryl (Ron) Schmalz, grandmother of 5, and great-grandmother of 6. George W. Walters

George W. Walters, 79, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at Claridge Healthcare Center.  He was born June 29, 1939 in Chicago, IL to William and Theresa Walters.  George enjoyed volunteering, especially with the Boy Scouts and The Chapel.  He was a Bears fan and attended worship services at The Chapel.  George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Regina, his children Deborah (Gerald) Kelly, Joseph (Susan) Walters, and Steven (Teara) Walters, his grandchildren Miranda and Jared Kelly, Hayley, Gabriella, Alison, and Ethan Walters, his sister Dorothy (Charles) Wieczorek, and many nieces and nephews.  George was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Walters, and his sister Louise Cerkleski.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 9:00am until 11:30am with the funeral service commencing at 11:30am at The Chapel 25270 ILL. 60 Grayslake, IL 60030.  Interment will be held privately.  All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Stacey Stadeker

Stacey Stadeker, age 42, a resident of Chicago, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Kenosha, Wis. He was born December 25, 1975 in Chicago.
Stacey is survived by his fiancé, Jennifer McKenzie; his children, Tyshawn Conwell Stadeker and Libby Elizabeth Stadeker; his mother, Barbara Anne Stadeker; his sisters, Adele Stadeker and Cheyenne McKenzie; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.

Bruce Raske

Bruce Raske, 60, born Oct. 6th, 1957, passed away at his residence, Aperion Home, in Highwood, IL. on Friday, August 10th, 2018.  Bruce left behind six siblings, sisters Julie, Gail, and Karen, and brothers Ken, Dennis, and Tom and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Raske and his father Julius Raske.  Services were held graveside on Monday, August 13th at Avon Cemetery in Grayslake, IL.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any mental health awareness program of your choice.  All arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Karen L. Hord

Karen L. Hord, 65, a 31 year resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 surrounded by her family at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born May 1, 1953 in Chicago, IL to John and Lois Dama. Karen was an avid Cubs fan and a fan of Grayslake Central Baseball, Softball, and Cheer. She was even named honorary Grandmother to the baseball team. Karen worked for Colossal Gram in Grayslake for over 27 years and fundraised for American Heart Association and Cancer Society. She was a devoted grandmother. Karen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ron, her mother Lois Dama, her children Kelly (Ryan) Buck, Tracy Hord, and Heather (Michael Carani) Hord, her grandchildren A.J., Trinity, Wesley, Ryleigh, Karina, Alexis, John, Liam, and Lucy, her siblings Lori Tokarz and Craig (May) Dama, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her dad and her brother Keith Dama. Paitoon Kornkasem

Paitoon Kornkasem, 81, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away July 24, 2018 in Los Angeles, CA.  He was born July 15, 1937 in Bangkok, Thailand.  Paitoon worked as a Production Scheduler for AM Multigraphics.  Paitoon is survived by his wife Chuancheun Kornkasem, whom he wed on February 11, 1970, his brothers Morakot, Pathai, Suwitch, and Bundit, his sister Pailin Phoophat, his son Paul Kornkasem, his daughter Patricia (John) Ramsey, and his grandchildren Tia Ramsey and Joseph Ramsey.  A memorial visitation and service is scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm with a memorial service commencing at 4:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Michael F. Gehrls

Michael F. Gehrls, age 63, of Park City passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at his home.  He was born November 21, 1954 at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan.  Mike enjoyed many things in life and was a kind heart who got along with those he passed in life. He was a very skilled painter and artist that loved the chance to show his children, grandchildren and anyone who wanted to learn how to draw and paint, especially the Flintstones and other fun cartoon characters.  As he spend most of his life working to support his family, Mike enjoyed being around his grandchildren the most during his retired years; helping raise each of them, enjoying how different each of them are and making memories with them. Mike will be most remembered for his love of all things and his spunky personality. There wasn’t a moment that he didn’t want to sit and talk while enjoying an ice cold Coke.  Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christine, his children Sherry Best and Michael C. (Tara) Gehrls, his grandchildren Jessica and Justin Best, Haydn and Zackary Gehrls, his sister Joyce (Cliff) Olsen and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Norma, his sisters Delores, Beverly and Donna and his brother Donald. A Memorial Potluck is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Lake County Fairgrounds Meeting Room, 1060 East Peterson Road Grayslake, IL 60030. Terry Garrison

Terry Garrison, of Mundelein, Illinois, loving husband of Robin, passed away at age 67 on August 8, 2018 at his home after a courageous battle with illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Lois Jean Gibson and the late Arlin Bruce Garrison. He graduated from Mundelein High School in 1969 and Western Illinois University and had a successful career as a printing salesman. Terry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer and her husband Robert Blessing of Grayslake, Illinois; grandson, Jordan Blessing; and granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Dale and his wife Doris Garrison of Gilbert, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce, husband of Ginny Garrison. Joshua James Talles Costello

Joshua James Talles Costello, age 34, of Ingleside, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Chicago. He was born May 21, 1984 in Waukegan to David Talles and Lisa Costello. Joshua was involved in a program that reached out to youths who struggled with drug addiction in an effort to educate them about the dangers of drugs. He is survived by his mother and father; his children, Katelyn and Joshua Talles, both of Vernon Hills; and his siblings, Timothy, Tarren, Carmen, David, and Logan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paula and Ken and his uncles Kevin and Timothy. Armin S. Mauritz

Armin S. Mauritz, 78, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Barrington, IL.  He was born January 20, 1940 in Memel, Germany.  Armin was a veteran having served for the US Army and had retired from Tuxco Corporation in Gurnee.  Armin is survived by his children Syd (Darla) Mauritz, Sheila (Harold) Mauritz Short, Arminda (Dale) Badgerow, Michelle Knudson, and Shawn Mauritz, his grandchildren Colton Mauritz, Patrick Mauritz, Marshall Mauritz, Madison Short, Riley Short, Brandy Jacquette, Casandra Collett, Devon Rogers, Everett Badgerow, Faith Badgerow, Tricia Wardlow, Quintin Wardlow, and Matthew Mauritz, his great-grandchildren Veronica, Angelina, and Patrick, and his siblings Ellen (John Donahue) Dishneau and Gerhardt (Friedl) Schwanabeck.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Karen.

Eligia Golemiec

Eligia Kazimiera Golemiec, 85, a resident of Round Lake, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Wauconda Care in Wauconda, IL.  She was born December 12, 1932 in Koczery, Poland. Eligia immigrated to United States in 1963 with husband Stanley “Stasz” and daughters. Lora Westbrook (Richard) sponsored the family’s voyage across the Atlantic Ocean on the now retired ship M.S. Batory, via passage into Canada, then rail to Chicago. Eligia was a devoted mother and grandmother, talented seamstress, wonderful cook of traditional Polish fare. Eligia was an amazing woman of strength and grace, resolute with love for her family.

Eligia is survived by her daughters Grace “Grazyna” Harucki and Barbara “Bozena” G. Klein; her grandchildren Angela Peleska (Mark), Katrina Harucki, Megan M. Klein, Jennifer A. Klein, and Kurt R. Klein; her great-grand children Felecia Robinson, Jake Robinson, Rhianna Peleska, and Miles Solis and her dear companion for the last 5 years, Nugget- beagle.  Eligia was preceded in death by husband Stanley Golemiec on June 18, 2009.

Wanda A. Mazurek

Wanda A. Mazurek, 86, a resident of Round Lake Park, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Winchester House in Libertyville, IL.  She was born December 15, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Alex and Josephine Bazydlo.  Wanda is survived by her husband of 67 years, Chester, her children Deborah Mazurek, John (Candie) Mazurek, David (Cheryl) Mazurek, and Dwayne Mazurek, her grandchildren Brandon, Sam, Max, Sara, Rebecca, Matthew, Ryan (Alli), and Alex (Jose), a great-granddaughter Grace Ann, and her many cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm and Friday, August 3, 2018 from 8:30am until 9:00am at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Janyce A. Hodgson

Janyce A. Hodgson (nee Istvanek), age 80, of Wildwood passed away on July 25, 2018 at her home.  She was born on August 16, 1937 at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Kenosha, WI.  Janyce was a member of the St. Gilbert’s Catholic Church and the Lake County Homemakers Extension.  She worked as a controller at Liberty Coach and F.K. Foundries for 47 years.  She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Hodgson; daughter, Tamara (Michael) Worcester; son, Jeffrey (Debra) Hodgson; her sisters, Kathleen (Kit) Gordon, Marijo (Douglas) DeThorne; brother, Gregory (Patricia) Istvanek; grandchildren, Melissa Butler, Judie Butler, Kyle (Jessica) Worcester, Kristin (Matthew) Schultz, and Kimberly Worcester; and 9 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jeanette Istvanek.

Florence H. Dulak

Florence H. Dulak, 81, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2018 in Lake Forest, IL.  She was born May 21, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Thaddeus and Florence Larkowski.  Florence worked as an eighth-grade science teacher for Aptakasic Junior High in Buffalo Grove, IL.  She enjoyed being a member of book clubs all of her life, loved the arts, and enjoyed traveling.  Florence was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee.  She always kept in touch with her college and high school friends and was very proud of her Larkowski heritage.  Florence is survived by her children Charlotte (Craig) Nielsen and Michele Beye, her grandchildren Eric (Abbie) Nielsen, Michael Nielsen, Maggie Thiam, Fallou Thiam, and Issa Beye, her sister Vivian (Al) Kozak, and her numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, and her son Steven.  A visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 30, 2018 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Mary Jean Nelson

Mary Jean Nelson, age 74, of Round Lake Beach, passed away on July 24, 2018 in Sunflower County in Indianola, Mississippi. She was born on February 12, 1944 in Chicago to Lillian and Joseph Mikieta.  She is survived by her children, Deborah (Greg) Hinkley of Grayslake, Corinne (David) Ness of Antioch, and Sharon (Bobby) Donnellan of Lake Villa; grandchildren, Abby, KC, Jimmy, Thomas, Max, Martin, Savannah and Aidan; and siblings, Joan (Robert) Morton and Pete (Teri) Mikieta. Susan M. Fitzgerald

Susan Marie Fitzgerald, nee Devaney, age 83, late of Round Lake, formerly of Libertyville, passed away on June 24, 2018. She was the beloved daughter of the late Frank J. and late Susan (nee Campbell) Devaney; loving wife of the late John; dear sister of the late Patricia Walsh, late Mary Ellen Devaney, and late Kathleen McManaman; devoted mother of Alison and the late Jay; dear grandmother of Ryan Elizabeth Fitzgerald; fond aunt of Mark and the late Greg Walsh as well as Brian, Kevin, Mark (Jennifer) and the late Tommy McManaman; and also Gerald (Denise) Fitzgerald, James (Jane) Fitzgerald, Thomas (Joyce) Fitzgerald, Julie Schauer, Peter (Nina) Fitzgerald, Donald Swanson, Sally (Mike) Powers, Susan (Russell) Anderson, Laura (Mark) Miller, Matthew (Amy) Fitzgerald, and Christopher Fitzgerald. She was a loving cousin to many. Sue was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chicago Class of 1952 and attended Harper College. She worked as an interior designer for various furniture stores over many years, and she loved to cook, entertain, and throw frequent parties for her family and friends. She also took her children and other family members on numerous fondly remembered vacations to Wisconsin, Florida, and elsewhere. Sue was never shy with her opinions, and she loved to read mysteries and other works. She embraced her Irish heritage and was close to relatives in Ireland, including Ann McDonald, Patrick Thornton, and Bernie Thornton. Family and friends will gather at 11 A.M. on Saturday, August 4, at Strang Funeral Home, 410 E. Belvedere Road, Grayslake, Ill., followed by a short memorial service at noon.

Robert “Bob” G. Schultz Jr.

Robert “Bob” G. Schultz Jr., 75, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  Bob was born January 10, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Bob and Rose Schultz Sr.  Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan, his children Bob (Bobbie) Schultz III and Lynn (Keith) Rollene, his grandchildren Rylee and Katie Schultz and Payton Rollene, and his siblings Al (Kathy) Schultz, Peggy (Tom) Carey, and Bill (Jan) Schultz.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donny.  A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm with a funeral service commencing at 4:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Colonel Robert F. Heinz Jr.

Colonel Robert F. Heinz Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife of 47 years Erika Heinz and his son MAJ Erik L. Heinz at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville earlier this Spring on 24 April 2018 due to complications from pneumonia. He lived a full life just shy of his 85th birthday. Colonel Heinz is survived by his wife Erika, his three sons Robert F. Heinz III, Richard A. Heinz, MAJ Erik L. Heinz and his daughter Tina Weisler. He is also remembered through his grandchildren; Christopher Heinz, Robin Heinz, Matthew Trawczynski, SSG Anna Trawczynski and SPC Dillon Wolfe. He was preceded by his mother, father and his sister Lois.
Colonel Heinz was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 15, 1933 to Anne and Robert Heinz. He graduated from Fenger Academy High School in 1951, then attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois from 1951 to 1955 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) from the Senior ROTC Program and was Commissioned a 2LT, Medical Service Corps/Regular Army on July 2, 1955.
He attended his Branch Officer Basic Orientation Course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. His first duty assignment was with the Medical Company of the 61st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as the Mess, Motors, Maintenance and Supply Officer.
During his first assignment, Colonel Heinz was chosen to attend Army Cargo Helicopter Pilots training at Fort Rucker, Alabama in March of 1956. Upon completion of training in October of that year, he was assigned to the 50th Medical Detachment (Helicopter Ambulance) in the Republic of Korea where he served for 18 months. In 1959, then 1LT Heinz was selected to attend Fixed Wing training at Gary Air Force Base, San Marcos, Texas. Upon completion of this training he was assigned to the 5th United States Army Flight Detachment, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
Multiple tours in West Germany, Fort Bragg, Fort Benning and two tours in the Republic of Vietnam followed. This included a tour on the Army Aviation Test Board, Fort Rucker, Alabama where he was the OH6-A (Little Bird) Test Manager and Chief of Aircraft Plans being responsible for all facets of testing and the ultimate deployment of the OH6-A (Little Bird). He was also the Medical Service Corps Army Reserve component advisor in Columbus, Ohio in 1975.
While stationed at Fort Rucker with the Aviation Test Board, Colonel, then Major Heinz, obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Troy State University. During his last tour in West Germany, from 1972 to 1975, Colonel Heinz served as the Commander, 30th Medical Group, Ludwigsburg and Surgeon of VII Corps.
He was promoted to full Colonel in July 1979 and finished his service as the Medical Coordinator for Army Readiness Region V, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He then became the 4th Army Headquarters, Senior Army Medical Advisor with a Reserve Component responsibility of seven states and 49,000 medical reservists/guardsman.Colonel Heinz retired from active duty on 1 August 1985 at Fort Sheridan after 30 years of service to his country.
Colonel Heinz then returned to school and obtained an Associate Degree in Human Services and became a certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor, then the Program Coordinator for the Lake County Substance Abuse Program, Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center, Waukegan, Illinois for 17 years.
Colonel Heinz’s military decorations include: The Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor, Bronze Star w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), Meritorious Service Medal w/ 2OLC, Air Medal w/ “V” device for Valor and 12OLC, Army Commendation Medal w/ 1OLC, Vietnamese Service Medal w/ 3 Stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/ 10 Campaigns and the Senior Army Aviator Badge.
Foreign decorations include: Korean Legion of Merit- Wha Rang, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Silver Star.
Colonel Heinz’s civilian organizations include the Sigma Nu Collegiate Fraternity, Phi Theta Kappa Scholastic Fraternity, the Exchange Club, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Dust-Off Association.
Colonel Heinz loved boating, emailing friends, “brown box sales” at Sears and JC Penny, Jelly Belly’s, his Yugo addiction in the 80’s and his SMART car. But by far, his love of Amazon will forever be remembered!
Colonel Heinz was laid to rest on May 4, 2018 at Fort Sheridan Cemetery in Lake Bluff, IL. He was sent with full military honors, surrounded by family, friends and his fellow soldiers already waiting for him.

LaVerne K. Thompson

LaVerne K. Thompson, 91, a resident of Round Lake Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at her home.  She was born November 2, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Matthias and Rene Groenwald.  LaVerne was a member of the Round Lake Lions/Lioness Club and a member of the United Protestant Church in Grayslake.  She was an avid bowler and was a part of Lakes Bowling Leagues for many years.  LaVerne is survived by her children John (Elaine), James (Alice), Jacki (Reid) Flade, Joni (Larry) Eskridge, and Jodi (Earl) Cox, her grandchildren Justin, Blake, Brandon, Ian, Zack, Matthew, and Elizabeth, and her great-grandchildren Adelyn, Logan, James, Haley, Colton, Joey, and Savannah.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, and her sisters Elvera and Lorraine.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Monday, July 30, 2018 from 9:00am until 11:00am with the funeral service commencing at 11:00am at the United Protestant Church 54 S. Whitney St. Grayslake, IL.  Interment will be held following the services at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville, IL. All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd.
