Miguel Ceja

Miguel Ceja, 88, a resident of McHenry, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born April 23, 1930 in Michoacan, Mexico to Juan Ceja and Maria Refujio Alvarez.  Miguel is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alicia Corona, whom he wed on January 26, 1972 in Waukegan, IL, his children Ruben Ceja of Chicago, Maria Del Refujio of Jan Juanico, Mexico, Juan Ceja of Bolingbrook, IL, Miguel Ceja of Waukesha, WI, Gabriel Ceja of Chicago, IL, Elvia Ceja Naranjo of Chicago, IL, Arnulfo Ceja of San Juanico, Mexico, Rosa Ceja Mena of Chicago, IL, Michael Corona of McHenry, IL, Jose Antonio Corona of McHenry, and Alma Corona Tovar, his grandchildren, Veronica, Johnny, Crystal, Daniel, Jasmine, Belen, Julian, Abigail, Eduardo, Victor, Stephanie, Hugo, Lupita, Mikey, Luis, Katherine, Jorge, Mariela, Carlos, Victor, Cruz, Carlos, Cecilia, Carolina, Evelyn, Jocelyn, Lupita, Isaac, Isaiah, Umberto, Dominick, Ulises, Marisol, Alejandra, and 29 great-grandchildren. Sigurd R. Haaland

Sigurd Rom Haaland, 88, passed away on Sunday March 10, 2019 at his home. He was born on September 15, 1930 in Minot, North Dakota to Theresa Rom and Sigurd Haaland.  While growing up in North Dakota he met and married his high school sweetheart, Marlys Erickson on July 11, 1951.  Sig attended Minot State University and later completed his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He worked for International Harvester as Vice President, Controller retiring after 31 years. Sigurd also served 14 years in the National Guard, retiring at the as rank of Captain.  Besides raising a family with Marlys, one of Sig’s passions was Horse Racing. He owned, trained, and raced them for many years. Sig enjoyed spending time with family and being at home.
He is survived by his children, Mark Haaland (Colleen) of The Colony, TX, Kurt Haaland (Brenda) of Katy, TX, Bruce Haaland (Lori) of Streamwood, IL, Karen Colby (Steve) of Grayslake, IL, Rick Haaland (Alicia) of Wylie, TX; many Grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister Mary Green who resides in Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys, and his parents, Theresa and Sigurd Haaland.

Kristine M. Flammang

Kristine M. Flammang, age 59, of Gurnee passed away on March 7, 2019.  Kris was born on March 25, 1959 in Racine, Wisconsin.  She was the loving wife of Randy Flammang for 35 years.  Kris was raised in Racine and Waukegan and attended Waukegan High School. Kris began her career as a successful personal banker.  She was also a proud employee of CDW for 12 years where she made many lasting friendships.  She especially loved being a member of the Drop Ship Team where she took pride in going above and beyond to make others shine. Kris was a devoted wife, mom, and friend who was admired by many for her vibrant personality and generous heart.  She truly loved being surrounded by family and adored her grandchildren.  Kris and Randy enjoyed camping for many years. Kris was exceptionally talented in crafting, beading, sewing, and quilting and received much joy in sharing these gifts with others. Kris is survived by her husband, Randy; Daughters, Heather (Justin) Stried and Nicole Flammang; Grandchildren, Henry, Thomas, and Sidney; Brother, Bobby (Kathy) Meisner; Sister, Pam (Norm) Lefebvre; Aunt, JoAnne St.Amand and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kris was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Patricia Meisner and sisters Debra Thoreson and Gerri Sawyer. Anton Gartner

 Anton “Tony” Gartner passed away peacefully on February 20, 2019. Tony was born September 8, 1934 in Kernei, Yugoslavia. Tony is the son of Jacob and Elisabeth Gartner, father of Andrea, grandfather of Elizabeth, Maria, Steve Jr, father-in-law of Steve, brother of Katherine and Marianne and uncle and granduncle of many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his sisters Theresia and Elisabeth and his brother Jacob. Tony lived with his family in Kernei until after World War II, when they were forced to leave their home and became refugees in Austria. In April 1952, they all emigrated to the United States. They settled in Chicago, where Tony’s first job was at the Atlas Prager Brewery. Over the years he was an electrician, managed an apartment building and was maintenance technician in a major apartment complex. Tony worked hard all his life. He enjoyed peaceful settings for his vacations, especially fishing the lakes of Wisconsin. He enjoyed gardening, and more recently his favorite pastimes were reading the newspaper and watching Gunsmoke. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 9:00 AM until the Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. John Brebeuf Church, 8307 N. Harlem. Niles, IL 60714. Marlys D. Haaland

Marlys Donnella Haaland, 89, of Grayslake passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 at her home. She was born on September 4, 1929 in Columbus, ND to Carrie Mae and Leonard Theodore Erickson.  She grew up in North Dakota, and attended Minot State University and went on to teach elementary school.  While raising five children, Marlys became active in many service organizations.  She was active in an international sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, receiving The Rose Award given for over 15 years of service. She was also very active at the Lutheran Church of Martha and Mary in Mt. Prospect from teaching Sunday School every year to being on the church council.  She returned to work 1983 at United Airlines in the Case Management Department and worked 9 years until she retired.  Marlys was very active in the Order of Eastern Star and served at the local chapter and at the State level. She was always looking for ways to build a better future of women and the community. She was very active in Mt. Prospect Women’s Club, Past President and JM Chapter PEO (Providing Education Opportunities) for women.  Marlys was appointed to the Mt. Prospect Planning and Zoning Board and served 5 years before she officially retired from her volunteer work.  Her biggest loves included her family, spending time with her grandchildren and her newest great-grandchildren, and especially her collie dogs.  She is survived by her husband, Sig Haaland of 67 years, they were married on July 11, 1951 in Hazen, North Dakota. She is further survived by her children,  Mark Haaland (Colleen) of The Colony, TX, Kurt Haaland (Brenda) of Katy, TX, Bruce Haaland (Lori) of Streamwood, Karen Colby (Steve) of Grayslake, Rick Haaland (Alicia) of Wylie, TX; many grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her brother, Gary Erickson (Noreen) of Montevideo, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Leonard Erickson.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 11:00am until 1:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 1:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Susan A. Stauner

Susan A. Stauner, 98, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at her home.  She was born October 11, 1920.  Susan was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church and Saint Mary’s Women’s Club.  Susan is survived by her children Dolores (Bill) Spung, Ray (Nancy) Stauner, Marge (Bruce) Gilbert, Joanne Stauner, Joseph (Mary) Stauner, Mary Sue (Mike) Hendel, Larry (Yvette) Stauner, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brothers Walter, Eugene, and Bernard, sisters Mary and Eileen, and her loving caregiver Tanya.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.  A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Harriet J. Cord

Harriet J. Cord, 78, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at her home.  She was born December 29, 1940 in St. Louis, MO.  Harriet enjoyed crafting, decorating, and dancing in her younger years.  She loved flowers, dolphins, was known for her good cooking, and was a very hard worker.  Harriet lived for her children and was known as “Mama Cakes” to any child that crossed her doorstep.  Harriet is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ray Cord Sr., her children Leonard Halcom Jr., Katherine Raysby, Roy Cord, and Raymond Cord Jr., her grandchildren John (Nicole) Persinger, Kyle Halcom, Christy Lee, Arthur (Nicole Miller) Raysby, Andrea (Jeremie) Bartelt, and John (Amber Homuth) Schmit, her 17 great-grandchildren, her sisters Betty (Bill) Hurtz and Thelma Ruble, her first husband and lifelong friend Leonard Halcom Sr., and her dog Little Miss.  She was preceded in death by her parents Jess and Margaret Elizabeth Smith.  A visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 18, 2019 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Shirley M. Metz

Shirley M. Metz, 85, a resident of Lake Geneva, WI, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Elkhorn, WI.  She was born December 19, 1933 in Chicago, IL to James and Bertha Connolly.  Shirley is survived by her husband, Wilbur, her children Laurie (Kenneth) Aemisegger, Mary Metz, Bill (Trisha) Metz, and Michael (Heidi) Metz, her grandchildren Kimberly Aemisegger, Hannah Metz, Timothy Metz, and Vincent Metz, her niece Michelle (Dave) Yarc, and her nephews Jim (Stephanie) Hansen, Ken (Cathy) Hansen, and Don (Jan) Metz.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary Ann (Jim) Hansen.  A visitation and funeral mass is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00a.m. with a funeral mass commencing at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church 301 E. Maureen S. Combs

Maureen S. Combs, 71, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Highland Park Hospital after complications from an auto accident. She was born June 19, 1947 in Chicago, IL to Russell and Meredythe Scurto. Maureen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Russell, her son Alex (Kelley) Combs, her grandson Bennett Combs, her siblings Peter (Peg) Scurto and Jane (Gerry) Manarik, her nieces Sarah Scurto and Rebecca Scurto, her nephews Gregory Manarik and Jonathan Manarik, and her great-nephew Camden Manarik. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Stephen Combs. Maureen was a graduate of Round Lake High School and earned her B. A. degree from Southern Illinois University. She was a teacher for many years, most recently in special education where she was a staunch and passionate advocate for her students. She also worked in the corporate world for several years as an editor and advertising manager with Lakeland Newspapers, MacMillan Publishing and the Chicago Sun Times. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Grayslake. Martha V. John M. Thomas Lee

Thomas Lee, 75, a resident Grayslake, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born May 29, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Howard and Dorothy (nee: Neveu) Lee.  Thomas was an avid golfer, making his own custom clubs, and loved teaching golf at his driving range that he owned.  He enjoyed being the first football coach with the Grayslake Colts Pee Wee Football.  Tom was an incredible entrepreneur, builder and renovator, loving to work with his hands.  Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annette, whom he wed on December 27, 1966 in Round Lake, IL, his children Jamie (Richard) LaPorta of Chicago and Shawn Lee of Lindenhurst, his grandchildren Ruby, Owen, Ryan, Conner, Camryn, Jadyn, and Trae, and his siblings Lora (Jim) Bush of Lake Forest and Bonnie (Terry) Mahoney of Round Lake.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason, and his brother Ron.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 11:00am until 1:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 1:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Mary E. Larry G. Fletcher


 LLarry G. Laverne M. Richard W. Pease

Richard W. Pease, 84, of Grayslake, IL formerly of Arlington Heights, passed away peacefully in his sleep from complications due to congestive heart failure on January 28, 2019. Born in Chicago, the son of Wendell and Pearl (Veidt) Pease, he enlisted in the US Navy after high school and served on the USS Rochester before attending the University of Illinois. In 1958 Richard started working at Illinois Bell where he met his future wife Bobbie in 1961. Together they shared a love that lasted 57 years. Richard retired in 1989 from Illinois Bell/AT&T and spent the last 30 years doting on his loving wife and family. His favorite activities included travel around the world with Bobbie, dancing, golf, boating, or watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks win championships. Richard also loved attending his grandchildren’s sports and dance performances of which he was so proud. He is survived by his cherished wife Bobbie (Gildemeister) Pease along with his children Jeff (Jodi) Pease of Buffalo Grove and Sue (Jim) Faulhaber of Gurnee. Richard was the proud and beloved “Papa” to Brendan, Zachary, Jarrett, Kiara, Shannon, and Elli who all miss him terribly. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marilyn McCown, brother-in-law Alan Gildemeister and many nieces and nephews.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Pearl Pease, his in-laws Robert and Marianne Gildemeister, his brother-in-law Harlan McCown, and sister-in-law Martha Gildemeister. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. Margaret M. Hook

Margaret M. Hook, 93, a resident of Antioch, IL, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019.  She was born March 24, 1925 in Niles Center, IL.  Margaret is survived by her sons, Tim and Gary Hook; and her sister, Ann Hook.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond D. Hook; and 5 brothers and sisters.  A visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2019 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030.  A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E.
