Abel Bonilla
Abel Bonilla, 67, of Arlington Heights passed away Friday, Sept 18, 2020. Abel was born Sept 25, 1952 in Zacatecas, Mexico. He was the 8th child of 11 to mother Maria de Jesus Sanchez and father Reynaldo Bonilla.
Abel moved to the Chicagoland in his late teens. Working in Mt. Prospect he met the love of his life, Judy. After having their first daughter and son they decided to escape winter and head west to sunny California. Following a year of working, swimming at the beach, exploring the sequoias and southern California, they grew homesick and moved back to Chicago. After their youngest daughter was born, Abel and his family moved one last time and have resided in Arlington Heights since 1987.
As a young man, Abel worked his way up through the food industry -always dreaming of owning his own restaurant. Never shying from hard work, that dream came true when he and his wife became the proud owners of Abel’s Cantina in September of 1993. After 27 great years of serving his community and three “retirement” parties, he’d be proud to see his children carry it on in his honor.
Abel was a big kid at heart and lived life accordingly. He truly loved to share his life and past experiences with customers and family alike. He had a true gift for storytelling that typically ended in a joke, followed by his irresistible laugh. Abel loved being outdoors, hiking, swimming and planting flowers. He also cherished going out for Sunday breakfast with his grandkids, playing and watching funny movies with them every chance he got.
Abel is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy, his children Elizabeth (Andy) Rickman, Abel Jr., and Alexis; his grandkids Jenna, Kyle, and Taylor; all his siblings Socorro, Juan, Crisanto, Francisco, Jesus, Jose, Lauro, Manuel, Antolino, and Pablo; and half-siblings Guillermina, Abigail, Efrain, Elvia, David, Jose Pedro, and Luiz. Robert J. Weaver
Robert J. Weaver, 89, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away August 30, 2020 at Journeycare in Barrington, IL. He was born December 15, 1930 in Chicago to R. Bertram and Jane T. (nee: Murtaugh) Weaver. Robert, Bob to all who knew and loved him, had a rich and full life. Born in Chicago, it is here he lived all but a handful of years of his life. A man of deep faith and a product of his Catholic education. Bob attended Queen of All Saints School and Loyola Academy, class of 1948, where he earned the nickname “Boxie”. After a few years in Colorado, Bob finished his college education at St. Louis University.
Bob was called to serve in the Army in 1953 during the Korean War. He was a Private First Class stationed in Iceland. He was honorably discharged and returned to St. Louis.
It was in St. Louis, while working at Standard Oil, that he met the love of his life, Janet Pailer. They married and shortly after moved to Chicago where they raised their 4 children; Bob, Kathy, John and Karen. Arlington Heights became their home.
Bob was a consummate story teller, so it should come as no surprise that he spent his life in sales. After years of working for others, Bob started his own company, Weaver & Associates, a Manufacturer’s Rep firm. He worked along side his sons until he retired.
Bob’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends, on a golf course, fishing or tending to his tomatoes and flowers. Up to his passing he still met with his high school classmates for lunch at Hackney’s in Glenview.
Bob leaves his family a lifetime of loving memories and endless stories to pass on to future generations. The greatest gift you could give him would be that his memory made you smile. John J. McDonald Jr.
After a lengthy journey with leukemia, John passed peacefully on Monday August 31, 2020. He will be deeply missed by his wife Therese, daughters Maggie (Kelly) Heden and Emily (Anthony) Canelakes, granddaughter Nora Heden, mother Lavena (the late John) McDonald, siblings Mary Beth (Vito) Van Ornum, Tom (Tricia) McDonald, Kathleen (John) Serkowski, and David (Jennet Shepherd) McDonald, and many nieces and nephews.
An avid outdoorsman, John loved fishing, tending to his gardens, and reveling in the scenery from the seat of his Harley. His razor-sharp wit and sense of humor could light the room, even in the darkest hours. Despite his gruff exterior, John will be remembered by those who knew him best as loving and kind-hearted. Often a man of few words, his quiet encouragement resonated loudly with those who chose to hear it.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. For more information please contact (847)223-8122 or log onto www.strangfuneral.org
