Kathleen M. Schippers

Kathleen M. Schippers, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Oct. 12, 2022 at age 69. She was a resident of Arlington Heights, IL and Lodi, WI.

Kate was born on Aug. 26, 1953, in Chicago to David P. Schippers and Jacquelin Schippers (nee Liautaud), the eldest of 10 children. Growing up in Chicago and Northbrook, IL, Kate was the “mother duckling” to her four sisters and five brothers.

Kate received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from George Washington University and a master’s degree in education from Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI. She worked for more than 14 years with Deerfield Public Schools District 109, where she was a library information specialist.

Kate was known for her love of children and reading. She had a gift for bringing books to life, and her amazingly expressive read-alouds were enjoyed by hundreds of children over the years. She was a positive influence to countless students, with many becoming avid readers themselves.

Kate’s children and grandchildren were her biggest joy. She was a great supporter to family members, assuring  them they could achieve anything they wanted to accomplish. Kate will be remembered for her hearty laugh and her love and acceptance for all.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents and brother, the Hon. Thomas M. Schippers.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Batka; children James TeWinkle, William (Nicole) TeWinkle and Lydia (Will) Phelps; and stepchildren Sarah (Blake) Stegeman and Christie Batka (Paul Kopp). Her grandchildren are William and Nicole’s children, Annabelle, Flora, and Lennox; and Sarah and Blake’s children, Autumn, Eleanor, and Luke.

Kate is also survived by her siblings: David Schippers III (Pat Connor); Antoinette “Tiyi” Schippers (David Bunce); Ann Schippers Winter (Bob Winter); Colleen Schippers Margolis (Lou Margolis); Kevin Schippers (Beth Hunter); Dr. Mary (Mimi) Schippers; Patrick Schippers (Trisha);  Peter Schippers (Dr. Laura Taylor); Thomas’ wife Carol; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

She is also survived by “auxiliary siblings,” her cousins Joe Lyons and Judy Liautaud.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2022 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Sandra A. Sliva Jasinski

Sandra Ann Sliva Jasinski, 81, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Robin Way Assisted Living in Kenosha, WI. Born May 15, 1941, in Waukegan, IL, she married Henry Jasinski on May 21, 1960.

Survivors include husband, Henry; three daughters, Laurie (Thomas) Zerfass, Pamela (Howard) Lester, Julie (John) Chappell; six grandchildren, Garren (Melissa) Zerfass, Alyssa Zerfass, Kayla (Ryan) Lester, Abbey Chappell, Karlee (Jakobi) Witt, Baylee Chappell; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Dalton, Aubrey, Bryar, Jeremiah and brother, Thomas (Patricia) Sliva.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Laddie; sister, Michaeline; and mother, Ann.

Vivian I. Miller

Vivian I. Miller, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away on October 10, 2022.  She was born on June 2, 1932 to Otto and Irene Bydalek.  She grew up in Grant Park IL and it is there where she met and married Carl Miller.  They moved to Grayslake and were married for 54 years.

She was an active member of St. Gilbert Parish being a co-board member with Carl on the St. Gilberts initial school board.  Vivian would later become the school’s secretary, nurse and bookkeeper for 25 years.  Her passion, and her gift to us was interacting with teachers, parents and the students trying to make each day special.

Vivian loved watching her children and grandchildren compete in sports from grade school through college.  She was a devoted follower at all of their games.

Vivian is survived by her children; Joanne (Charles) Pinto, Gary (Terri) Miller, Terry (Kerry) Miller, her grandchildren:  Ross Miller, Carter Miller, Marcus (Robin) Miller, Madison Miller, Connor Miller and Trent Miller, her brothers Raymond (Lorraine) Bydalek, Albert Bydalek and John Hoffmann and loving companion Joseph Happ.  She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, her beloved stepfather Ray Hoffmann, her sister Joanne Sharkey and sister in-law Georgene Bydalek.

 A memorial visitation and memorial mass are scheduled on Saturday October 15, 2022 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E. Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030  from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with memorial mass commencing at 11:00 am.  Interment will be held privately.

Dorothy A. Leber

Dorothy Ann Leber nee Kosch age 95 passed away October 11, 2022 the beloved wife of the late Harry Leber.  She was born February 15, 1927 to John and Helen (Mihalso) Kosch.  She is survived by her children Susan (Donald) Jankowski, Pamela (Michael) Andry, Linda (Michael) Newman, and William (Amy) Leber. Proud grandmother of Kimberly Williams, Jerald (Erin) Andry, Kristin (Corey) Sherman, Thomas Turner and Katherine (Zachary) Strohmaier.  Great Grandmother to Morgan, Hunter, Drew, Aiden, Ben, Noah, Emerson, and Wyatt.

Jeffery T. Burke

Jeffery Thomas Burke, 65, a resident of Druce Lake, IL, passed away October 6, 2022 at Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, IL.  He was born October 24, 1956 in Davenport, IA.

Jeffery spent most of his working days as a marble mason/tile setter in Chicago, most notably having a major role in the making of Millennial Park. After retirement, he started a food concession business for 3 years with his children called Dawg’s Corn. Finally, he kept busy with the ever-interesting hobby of scapping. He had a love for sports including the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs.  He was a simple, happy man remembered for his attitude, antics, and jokes. “Keep Smile’n.”

Jeffery is survived by his children, Lauren (Justyn) Hayden of Druce Lake and Ryan (Nicole Baker) Burke of Winterville, GA; his partner, Nancy; his step-father, Jack Goodlove; his grandchildren, Jack and Kira of Druce Lake and Nina of Winterville, GA; his sisters, Karen (Dennis) Brobston of Burlington, IA and Patti Jo (Brent) Kreiger of Burlington, IA; his aunts, Mardi Vogt and Marvell Stuckel of Davenport, IA; and his nephew, Kaden Brobston of Burlington, IA. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Burke; his mother, Mary Goodlove; and sister, Stevie Jones.

Samar Kumar Kundu

Our beloved husband and father Samar Kumar Kundu passed away on October 7, 2022, in Libertyville IL. He was born August 7, 1942, to Sushil Das Kundu and Suprava Das Kundu.

Samar had a deep love for his family and his work. Samar was the beloved husband to his wife of 57 years, Amita Kundu, beloved father to his children Jayeeta (Indranil) Mukherjee and Shilajit (Roopal) Kundu, a deeply loved grandfather/Dadu to his grandchildren Rohan, Nalin, Kiran, Nayana, and Nadiya, and a wonderful dog dad to Oscar.

Samar Kumar Kundu, Ph.D., D.Sc., was born in South Calcutta on August 7, 1942. The second son of his parents, and one of six children to Sushil and Suprava Kundu, he grew up a dedicated and bright student. After graduation from high school, Samar wanted to study science. He was admitted to Asutosh College in 1956 for an Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) and graduated in 1958. He excelled in Chemistry and decided to pursue a career and entered the Surendra Nath College in North Kolkata. He went on to the University Science College for M.Sc in Organic Chemistry and received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and D.Sc. in Bio-organic Chemistry from Calcutta University.

Over his 45-year career in research and development, he served as a lead and senior scientist, publishing over 65 scientific papers in international journals and books. He was credited with 15 US patents and 25 International patents. He has given numerous lectures in the United States and Internationally. His academic career started at the University of Calcutta as a Reader in Chemistry. After immigration to the US, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Biochemistry and Immunology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, then as an Assistant Professor in Biochemistry and Experimental Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.Samar then began his corporate career in Industrial Research and Development in the Diagnostic Division of the Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Illinois as a Senior Scientist, and later he was inducted into the prestigious Volwiler Society as a Fellow in 1998. During his tenure at Abbott, he was an editor for the National Institute of Health (NIH) Cholesterol Management Program, Consultant to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Immunodiagnostics, Visiting Professor at the Institute of Chemical Biology, Jadavpur, Kolkata, and Visiting Advisor for WHO at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. Samar was recognized in WHO’S WHO in Marquis Frontier’s in Science and Technology and in Men of Achievement, UK. After a 20-plus year career at Abbott Laboratories, Samar became the Chief Scientist at Sword Diagnostics in 2006, a cutting-edge life sciences company created in response to the rapidly evolving needs of the research and pharmaceutical communities.

Patricia R. Granzow

Patricia Rose (Pajkos) Granzow

July 12, 1940-October 5, 2022

Died peacefully at The Village of Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst IL. Born in Chicago, Patricia was the only child of Stephen and Florence Pajkos. In 1961, she married Raymond Granzow. She began her career as a nurse and then focused on raising her children, Kimberly and Michelle. The family made their home in Oak Forest, IL, and eventually moved to Mt. Prospect, IL.

Patricia’s life involved volunteering at Holy Family Hospital, gardening, traveling, ceramics, and collecting an insane amount of cookbooks. She excelled at organizing group trips and outings for various friends and clubs. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Erica, Cassidy, and Jordan. Patricia and her husband, known to all as Pat and Ray, enjoyed spending winters at their home in Surprise, AZ, and the warmer months in Delavan, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Stephen Pajkos. She is survived by her husband, Raymond, her children and sons-in-law, Kim Magon-Haller (Kurt Haller) and Michelle Turner (Derek Turner), grandchildren Erica (Wojciechowski) Nach (Steve Nach), Cassidy Magon, Jordan Magon, as well as great-grandchildren Aubree and Haylee Nach.

We love and miss you very much.

Terese D. Wedrall

Terese “Teri” D. Wedrall, 81, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away as the sun rose on her new life in the morning hours of Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, IL.

Terese, commonly known as Teri by family and friends, was born October 14, 1940, growing  up in the Chicago area.  She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother. She was always ready to open her heart to others and loved deeply.

Her memory lives on through her children Daniel J. Wedrall, Tracey A. (Richard) Ogierman , John S. (Aurora) Wedrall,  Joe W. Wedrall, Keith V. (Francesca) Wedrall,  her grandchildren Alicia (Kurt) Schmidt, Brooke Ogierman, Alura Wedrall, Jennica Wedrall, Michael Wedrall, Alexander Wedrall and Sonny C. Schmidt, a soon to be born great-granddaughter, her sisters Linda Johnson and Barbara Karp, and  her former husband and friend John J Wedrall, her relatives, former in-laws, and friends.

John P. Nielsen IV

John P. Nielsen IV, 82, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away October 6, 2022 at Symphony in Buffalo Grove, IL.  He was born February 17, 1940 in Chicago, IL to John and Mabel Nielsen.

John was a veteran having served for the US Navy and worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 30 years.

John was the beloved husband to his wife of 60 years, Mary Nielsen, beloved father to his children Natalie (Bart) Hoppe, Michele (John Treichler) Nielsen, John Nielsen V, Adam (Nicola) Nielsen, Kim (Joe) Disalvo, Melissa (Brent) Dominowski, Todd Nielsen, and Shelly Nielsen, and a beloved grandpa to his grandchildren Kaitlyn Disalvo, Rachel Disalvo, Megan Nielsen, Emily Nielsen, Dylan Dominowski, Rylee Dominowski, Kyle Nielsen, Carter Nielsen, Cole Nielsen, Brayden Nielsen, Hannah Soukup, and John Nielsen VI.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Chad Nielsen, and his sisters Barbara Schubert and Shirley Struck.

Grace Baker

Grace Baker (nee: Beard), 85, a resident of Round Lake Park, and formerly of Ripley, TN, passed away October 3, 2022 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.

Grace is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Baker, her daughters Cathy Andersen and Sheri (John) Bochniak, her grandchildren Tiffany Cox, Dana, Jillian, and Demi Andersen, and Devyn, John Charles, and Sheridan Bochniak, her 8 great-grandchildren, and her 1 great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Mattie Beard, and her sisters Shirley Lazzara and Rozelle Goodman.

John J. Jonker

John Joseph Jonker, age 75, a resident of Kenosha, WI passed away on September 24, 2022 at Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, WI.  He was born on July 6, 1947 in Chicago, IL to Johannes Joseph Jonker and Magdalen C. (nee Franciscus) Jonker. 

John retired from the Postal Service after 37 years, served as a Trustee on the Round Lake Heights Village Board, and was a part of the St. Joseph Centennial Celebration Anniversary.  He loved traveling, building model trains, researching his genealogy and was a history buff. 

John is survived by his siblings, James (Helen) of Woodstock, Joe (Debra) of Hebron, and Janet (Steve) Sanders of Georgia; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Jonker and his parents. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gilbert Catholic Church on Thursday, September 29, 2022 on at 10:00 a.m.  A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Maurice K. Shiu

Maurice K. Shiu, 84, a resident of Barrington, IL, passed away September 22, 2022 at his home.  He was born February 11, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Maurice P. and Georgiann Shiu.

Maurice was a veteran having served with the US Marines.  He enjoyed watching Chicago sports.

Maurice is survived by Mona Shiu, his son Christian Shiu, his sister Carolyn Chiang, his nephew Eric, and his niece Jenny.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert S. Peddle

Robert Stanley Peddle, age 92, a resident of Gurnee passed away on September 20, 2022 at Sunrise Senior Living in Gurnee.  He was born on January 21, 1930 in Highland Park, IL to Stanley Patrick Peddle and Edith Loretta (nee Ralph) Peddle.  He was a member of the Plumbers local 130, and former member of the Elks of Highland Park.  He was an avid bowler in many leagues and tournaments over many decades.  He was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan!

Robert is survived by his children, Elizabeth A. (Robert) Morris of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Bridget M. (William) Gross of Cary, IL, Robert T. (Melissa) Peddle of Lake Villa, IL, Daniel P. Peddle of Ft. Sandra J. Wetendorf

Sandra J. Wetendorf, 76, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away on September 20, 2022 at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, IL.  She was born August 20, 1946 in Chicago, Il, to WM Wohlfeil and Mary Zotalis nee Bunch. 

Sandra was a member Heartland Baptist Church, Antioch, Il. She was the ultimate crafter, and animal lover of all kinds.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 44 years Jeffery Wetendorf, whom she wed on October 21, 1978 in Niles, Il, her grandchildren Ashley Dial of Mt Morris, IL and Alexandrea Rakowski of Kenosha, Wi. Her sister Tasia Zotalis of Chicago, Il and sister to many Wohlfeil siblings, and many cousins.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Kimberly Dial, her son Shawn Rakowski and her sister Valerie Wohlfeil.

Rajko Paldrmic1942 – 2022

Rajko was born in Grab, Montenegro to Dosta & Spaso and immigrated to USA in 1969.  Loving husband to Mara, father to Natalija, and Nick (Anne), grandfather to Isabella, Evan and Alexandra.  

He was blessed with a large family, was a cousin, brother-in-law, and uncle to many including Dragan, Nenad, and the late Dusan. Preceded in death by his brothers Savo, Dusan, and Mile. Further survived by kumovi, other family & friends here, Montenegro, and Serbia. 

He studied to be a math & history professor before he came to US. He briefly taught at Ivy Tech, worked as a steelworker and technician to put food on the table for his family here and overseas. Rajko enjoyed playing soccer especially in club championships. He excelled at chess and won 2nd place (his older brother Mile won 1st) in national tournament sponsored by Yugoslav embassy. He loved fishing, teaching others how to fish, camping, puzzles, fixing things, traveling and especially grilling for family and friends. His motto was “take it easy”. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home September 20, 2022. We will remember him most for his kind blue eyes, smile, laugh, patience, easy-going demeanor, love of family, Orthodox traditions, animals, and for always wanting to make others laugh and relax.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 12:30pm at New Gracanica Church 35240 W Grant Ave, Third Lake, IL 60046. The burial will follow at the cemetery on the church grounds.

Isidro R. Juarez, 23, passed away September 17, 2022.  He was born June 29, 1999 in Kenosha, WI. Isidro is survived by his mother and stepfather Samantha (Isidro) Ayala, his father Armando Juarez, his grandparents Irma and Gerardo Juarez and Juan (Lupita) Delvalle, and his siblings Juan Juarez, Lisette Juarez, and Nicholi Ayala.  He was preceded in death by his grandma Lidia Delvalle. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 23, 2022 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Vera V. Morris

Vera Vivan Morris, age 103, a resident of Gages Lake/ Wildwood passed away on September 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.  She was born on September 25, 1919 in Chicago to Arthur Kepler and Mary (nee Jessop) Kepler. Vera was smart, social, kind and adventurous.  She always believed in doing things well.  She was a devoted wife and mother.  She loved living in Gages Lakes (the country) and raised her family there.  She liked elegance, but never exceeded the budget.  Although she belonged to many organizations, her focus was on being a wife, mother, and homemaker.  She was an excellent seamstress.  Vera insisted on balanced meals and she lived a long, positive life of one hundred three years.Vera loved to dance and organized a ballroom dance club with neighbors.  She like to swim.  She enjoyed teaching piano for most of her life.  Vera wrote poems for greeting cards sent to friends and family.  She wrote songs for dance classes where she played piano for more than twenty years. In high school Vera belonged to Green Street Church of Chicago.  She participated in youth group theater productions.  She also belonged to an Equestrian club and an Aviators club for girls.  In Lake County she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Girl Scout Board of Lake County, and a Cub Scout leader.  As a member of United Protestant Church of Grayslake for about seventy-seven years she served as Sunday school teacher, member of 4Cer’s, and the Memorial Fund committee.  Vera was a book keeper for the Lake County Department of Special Education.  She and Don belonged to the neighborhood treasure hunt committee that invented many challenges for people in Lake County area for several years.    Vera is survived by her children, Donna of Oak Park and Dean (Marcia) of Wilmot, WI; her 9 grandchildren; her 15 great grandchildren; her 6 great great grandchildren; and 1 great great great grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her husband, H. Don Morris; her daughter, Jeri Jean (nee Morris) Becker; her brother, Arthur Kepler; and her sister, Betty Jean (nee Keple) Happ. A funeral service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 12:00pm.  A visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral chapel from 11am until the time of service.  Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or United Protestant Church of Grayslake.  For more information, please call (847) 223-8122 or visit www.StrangFuneral.org.

Earl J. Rinker, Jr.

Earl J. Rinker Jr., 83, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away September 11, 2022 at Libertyville Manor in Libertyville, IL.  He was born April 11, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Agnes and Earl J. Rinker Sr. 

Earl was a dedicated employee of Vapor Corp of Niles, IL as a machinist/prototype designer for 48 years.  He began his career there immediately after graduating high school until his retirement in 2004.  His talents adjusted to company transitions from boilers and aircraft to transportation.  He has two patents in his name and he made the actual parts used in an early space rocket launch in the 1960’s. 

He enjoyed his motorcycles, participating in summer cross-country rallies with the Chicago Region BMW Club.  Earl served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964, Fort Bliss, Texas- 71st Artillery Hawk Missile.  He served in Korea for 13 months.

Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy, his son David (Sherri) Rinker, his grandsons Benjamin Rinker and Zachary Rinker, and his sister Cheryl Rinker Roth.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son Kurt, and his sister Marjorie Neff.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Gilbert Chapel, 301 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00am.  A visitation will be held on Friday at the chapel from 10:00am until the start of Mass at 11:00am.   Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Earl’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Deanna Mary Daily-Jackimek

Deanna Mary Daily-Jackimek, 63, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away September 11, 2022 at her home with her family at her side.  She was born March 23, 1959 in Rockford, IL to Maurice and Juliette Daily.

Deanna was the co-owner of Quality Dentistry, and volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, She was also a long time member of the Wildwood Presbyterian Church.  She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Deanna is survived by her husband Tim M. Jackimek DDS, and her son Timothy Jackimek.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Doris M. Davis

Doris M. Davis, 96, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away September 12, 2022 at Anthology in Grayslake, IL.  She was born November 18, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Edmund and Frida Becker.

Doris was a member of the Eastern Star, Karnak, and the Daughters of the Nile.  She was an avid Cubs fan.

Doris is survived by her children Deborah (Odilon) Boey, Richard E. Davis, and Jeffrey Davis, her grandchildren Julie (Mark) Loewes, Brian (Nicole) Boey, Melissa Ann (Damien) Burczyk, Jennifer Lynn Davis, Steven Kehm, Erik Kehm, and Nathan Davis,  her great-grandchildren Andrew Loewes, Charlotte Loewes, Harrison (Madison) Loewes, Katelyn (Patrick) McKay, Nicholas Boey, Victoria Boey, and Ophelia Boey, and her daughter-in-law Chris Davis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard Davis II, her sons Bernard Davis III and Gregory Davis, and her sister Betty (Joseph) Dahlman.
