Obituary's Biography:

Josephine Vaccaro Schumacher passed away on October 28, at the age of 92 in Grayslake, IL. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and great grandmother who was always there when anyone needed her with a smile on her face, a happy disposition and ready to jump in and help out with anything anyone needed, everyone who met Jo loved her. She was predeceased by husband Leonard (d. June 8, 1992) and is survived by sons Henry and James Schumacher; daughter Anna (Schumacher) Faber and daughter Leonora (Schumacher) Hamilton; Grandchildren Christopher and Stephanie Faber, Kimberly (Schumacher) Hatch, Amber and Lance Schumacher, and Casey and Cole Hamilton; Great Grandchildren Benjamin and Jude Faber, and Haden and Gavin Hatch; brother Andrew Vaccaro; and nephew James Vaccaro.

Jo will be remembered for always being ready to pitch in and help with all the family gatherings, spending most of her time in the kitchen. At weddings, you were likely to find her in the middle of the dance floor dancing with several of her many family members and friends.

Jo was born to James and Mary (Aguitto) Vaccaro who immigrated from Sicily, Italy. She married Leonard William Schumacher in 1949. She was proud of her Italian heritage, often baking Italian cookies and making her famed parmesan cheese and breadcrumb stuffed artichokes.

She was born in 1930 in Milwaukee but lived most of her early life in Chicago, moving to Park Ridge in 1993.

We will be celebrating her life with a visitation on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 4pm – 8pm at Strang Funeral Chapel at 410 E. Belvidere Rd. in Grayslake, IL. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10am at the funeral chapel.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, IL, with a luncheon to follow.  For more information please log onto www.strangfuneral.org or contact (847)223-8122.

  1. We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Your mom was a great lady and always a lot of fun. We were just looking at some old pictures and saw her at a wedding on the dance floor. She will be truly missed. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. 🙏
