Obituary's Biography:

Diana Elizabeth Ruiz (nee:Navas), age 56, resident of Gurnee, Illinois passed away on July 25th, 2022 peacefully surrounded by her immediate family. She was born on July 29th, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois to Rene and Carmen Navas one of four daughters, known as the middle child.

In October 2020, she was diagnosed with terminal Stage IV (NSCLC), Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Adenocarcinoma. Diana fought relentlessly to keep living and never lost hope despite her extremely rare cancer diagnosis. She was fortunate enough to participate in Northwestern Medicine’s experimental clinical research trials in hopes that it would help advance the treatments of this rare type of lung cancer.

In October 1994, Diana began her retail career as one of the original founding Nordstrom employees and helped open the very first Nordstrom store at Old Orchard mall, Store #223 in Skokie, Illinois. Little did she know, she would go on to dedicate 28 years of her life to the Women’s Shoes and Customer Experience departments. She embraced the vision of Nordstrom’s customer service excellence and gained many lifelong friendships and built customer connections along the way.

She was preceded in death by her father Ing. Rene A. Navas and survived by her mother Carmen R. Navas, loving sister to Monica Girard (Andy), Lucy Navas Watson (Paul), and Carmen Rodriguez (George), adored and cherished Aunt to twins Renee Girard and Valerie Medina (Jesus), Jessica Elston (Brian), Jordan Watson, Alexandra and Andres Rodriguez.

She will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who were lucky enough to know her. Not to mention her fur babies; Ginny, Hazel and Rohan who gave her so much comfort and joy through all the ‘ruff’ times.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing an honorary donation in memoriam of Diana E. Ruiz to Northwestern Medicine Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center so that other cancer patients may receive experimental trial treatments.
