Obituary's Biography:

Rachael Rene Genelin, 37, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away February 24, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born June 2, 1986, in Westerville, OH to Michael and Reneé (Stueber) Genelin.

Rachael attended St Gilbert School, Carmel High School and St. Mary’s University of Winona, Minnesota, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Her professional work life began as a behavioral therapist for troubled youth and children with autism. She later changed careers and worked with her father and grandfather at Industrial Packaging Corp.

Rachael had a true appreciation for life and self-improvement. She enjoyed exercising and hiking, educating herself and others on nutrition, and gardening. She and her boyfriend met at the Rooftops of Wrigley field where they shared a die- hard interest of the Cubs. Her faith, caring for others, and generosity was of precedence for her. Rachael loved family and friends with a passion, a genuine love that was felt by all who knew her and will never be forgotten.

She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and was always upbeat and positive. Rachael was a role model for others seeking alternative avenues for health and wellbeing. She brought inexplicable joy to the hearts of many with her warmth and contagious laugh. Rachael will be dearly missed by all.

Rachael is survived by her father, Michael Genelin, her mother, Reneé (Patrick Patterson) Genelin, boyfriend Michael Ranvestel, her siblings Michael (Khadija) Genelin, Matthew Genelin (Christine Berry), Molly Genelin (Colin Stiefer), her niece and nephew Aliya and Bashir, her Godmother, Amy Abel, Godfather, Brian Genelin, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and her crazy dog Remi. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Jim and Pat Genelin and Roman and Arlene Stueber, and her uncle Kevin Genelin.

A visitation and funeral mass are scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Gilbert Church 301 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 10:00am until 1:00pm with the mass commencing at 1:00pm. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gilbert Church.

  1. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Rachael was such a brave warrior throughout her illness. I’m so sorry that she faced so many health challenges. I wish she could have lived a longer, healthier life, one she truly deserved. She was an inspiration through all her adversity. The family of her friend, Liz Andrew, will miss her dearly. Rachael is loved by us all. She will be our guardian angel in Heaven. May she rest in peace.

  11. Rachael inspired people. She inspired me without a doubt. She was beautiful, witty, strong beyond belief and just being around her was contagious. She did amazing things and will continue to do so in the people she touched. That woman spread so much love and positivity while she was on this earth without even knowing that was her calling.
