Ginny L. Abruzzo

Published March 30,2022

Obituary's Biography:

Ginny L. Abruzzo, 67, a long-time resident of Libertyville, IL, passed away March 26, 2022 after a fierce and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born December 2, 1954 in Lake Forest, IL to Raymond and Bette Michaels.

She retired in March 2021 after 25+ years as a dedicated employee of the Health Information Management team at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She enjoyed many simple pleasures in life which included playing with her dog Ellie, hummingbird watching, an early morning coffee, and an evening glass of wine. She loved the outdoors, wildlife, and Chicago sports teams. Most summer days she could be found tending to her garden, her favorite summertime passion.

Her greatest joys in life were watching her grandchildren and garden grow. Anyone who knew Ginny was touched by her patience, ability to listen, and positivity. She loved everyone deeply and unconditionally, and we take comfort in knowing that Ginny is now at peace and free of pain.

Ginny is survived by her husband of almost 42 years, Joseph Abruzzo, her children Jessie Abruzzo, Joey Abruzzo, and Jordan (Hayley) Abruzzo, her grandchildren Cecelia, Aiden, and Madelyn, and her siblings Ron Michaels, Diane (Dwight) Schlicting, and Don (Claudia) Michaels. She was preceded in death by her parents.

All funeral arrangements were privately held and entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.  For more information, please call (847) 223-8122 or visit www.StrangFuneral.org

  1. I am heartbroken to hear about Ginny. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her at Condell. She was kind, thoughtful, and always went out of her way to help me. I would call her the “Forms Queen” because she knew everything about every form. I will never forget her contagious laugh. Ginny, Lee, Rosita, and I would joke around with each other daily and we would be in tears from laughing so hard. It would make my day.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the Abruzzo family. Ginny would frequently share stories about her grandchildren and Ellie. She proudly hung their pictures in her cubical. I hope your happy memories help you through this difficult time. Ginny will be greatly missed.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about Ginny. She was a pleasure to work with. We started around the same time at Condell. We actually shared twin stories and cheer stories about our kids. My deepest sympathies to the Abruzzo family.

  3. My condolences go out to the whole family. So sorry I never knew Ginny, but my daughter Ashley spoke highly of her. Joey and Jordan I am so sorry.

  4. Joe,
