Freda L. Ratliff

Freda Lyvonne Ratliff, 75, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2017 in Libertyville, IL. She was born in Pike County, Kentucky on September 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Cox. She was married to Forrest Ratliff on December 24, 1959 to this marriage, two sons were born, Forrest G. Ratliff Jr of Salem, WI and Tim L. (Penny) Ratliff of Trevor, WI; seven grandchildren, Michele, Mickey, Derek, Jessica (who died at birth), Frankie, Sarah and Jon; and 1 great grandchild, Jackson. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Blake (Oda) Cox of Round Lake Beach and Gary Cox of Lake Villa, 7 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 sisters in law and 1 brother in law.
God and family were her top priorities and she felt like her grandchildren were special gifts from God. She was a member of Calvary Temple Christian Center for 47 years.
A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 10:00am until 12:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 12:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Herbert B. Lortz

Herbert B. Lortz, 84, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born March 4, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Bruno and Hedwig Lortz.  Herbert was an Indian Guide until he graduated from high school.  He served for the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 250.  Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy, his children John (Linda) Lortz, Debbie (Ed) Kruk, Cathy Lortz, and Bob (Wendy) Lortz, his grandchildren Marilyn, Brian, Brad, Ann, Brittany, Sarah, Jason, Ryan, and Connor, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Loose.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Stephen J. Sears

Stephen J. Sears, age 47, of Grayslake, passed away at his home on Friday, September 8, 2017 following a long, courageous battle with cancer.  He was born June 14, 1970 in Chicago to Gerald F. and Elizabeth (Jackson) Sears.  Stephen was passionate about his job at Midwestern Univeristy and proud that he helped students become health care professionals.  He loved the Sox, the Oakland Raiders, and was a Blackhawks fan. He was a huge Beatles and Marx Brothers fan, but, most of all, he loved and adored his family. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Victoria (nee: Heskin), whom he married on November 8, 1991 in Chicago; his parents; children, Christina (John) Franco of Connecticut and June of Connecticut; his grandchildren Rei and Aiden; his siblings, Gerald (Michelle) of Chicago, Kevin (Nicole) of Illinois, Delores (Jim) of Wisconsin; very special and loving friend, Tonya Jackson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by many beloved family members.  Friends of the family may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Carmen B. Cruz

Carmen B. Cruz, 95, a resident of Waukegan, passed away September 7, 2017 in Waukegan, IL.  She was born January 4, 1922 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico to Domingo Cruz and Canuta Ortiz.  She was a member of the Latin Pentecostal Church.  Carmen is survived by her children Carmelo (Maria) of Puerto Rico, Adalberto (Amalia) of Los Angeles, CA, Mario (Genil) of Ohio, Pedro (Deixter) of Florida, Carmen (Omero) of Arizona, Luis Ramon (Sandy) of Illinois, Luis (Carmen) Gustavo of Illinois, Gloria (David) of Wisconsin and Belen, her 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and her sister Ana.  She was preceded in death by her   parents, her siblings Felipe, Guadalupe, Pedro, Alfonso (Olga), Jose Ramon (Aurea), Sylvia, and Carmen (Pedro), and her great-grandson Alec Marquez.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Monday September 11, 2017 from 10am until 11am with a funeral service commencing at 11am at Latin Pentecostal Church 100 S. Alice Kathleen Smith

Alice Kathleen Smith, age 80, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017.  Born in Chicago on October 2, 1936, Alice was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Church in Round Lake.  She was an American Legion Lady-Bug.  She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Family and friends always came first in her heart.  She is survived by her children, Norman (Jennifer) Smith of Seattle, WA, Kathy (Rick) Welter of Johnsburg, Ken (Robin) Smith of Grayslake, and Linda (Joseph) Johnson of Round Lake Beach; her grandchildren, Rik Welter, Steve Welter, Christopher Smith, Katie Smith, Grant Smith, Troy Smith, Brandon Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Evelyn Johnson, Eric Johnson, Faith Smith, Luke Smith and Jeremiah Smith; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Elmer John Stevens “Steve”, Joan (Herman) Kaiser of Paducah, KY and Bernice (Don) Elia of Scottsdale, AZ.  Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman J. Smith, her mother, Eleanor Rasmussen-Stevens-Teague, her brother, Elmer J. Russell Lee Rathunde

Russell Lee Rathunde, age 57, a resident of Lake Villa, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home. He was born February 9, 1960 in Elmhurst. He was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes Church. He is survived by his mother, Dawn Rathunde of Grayslake; two children, David and Corine; grandson, Tony Jackson four brothers, Steven (Debbie), Edward (Vicki), Donald (Lynn), Ronald (Susan); two sisters, Dawn (Jerry) Ring, Diane (Paul) Acutt; in-laws, Craig and JoAnn Ellison; two sisters-in-law, Julie (Dan) Skidds, Jennifer (Norris) Dennis Davidson; and 19 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy (Ellison) Rathunde, his daughter, Mindy (Rathunde) Jackson; and his father, Sonny Rathunde. Domenico Maniscalco

Domenico Maniscalco, 89, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.  He was born on September 22, 1927 in Italy to Calogero and Antonina (nee Maurici) Maniscalco.

Domenico is survived by his wife, Angelica (nee Ferrantelli), of 64 years, whom he married on April 25, 1953 in Burgio, Italy.   He is further survived by his sons, Vito and Anthony (Shelly) Maniscalco; daughter-in-law, Reem Maniscalco; grandchildren, Domenico, Angie, Shaden, Carl, Adam, and Nathan; brother, Vito Maniscalco, and many sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carl; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 8, 2017 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.
