Maria M. Vela

Obituary's Biography:

 Maria Magdalena Vela, age 84, a resident of Ingleside, IL, passed away on July 2, 2025, at Northwestern McHenry Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1941, in Hondo, Texas, to Marcello and Esther Gonzales.

Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, and caring for her many pets—most recently her beloved, Star. She was especially attentive to her grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. Although illness prevented her from meeting her two great-grandchildren in recent years, her love for her family remained unwavering. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maria is survived by her children: Gracie (Scott) Johnson of Hainesville, Belinda (Chuck) Dietz of Ingleside, Daniel (Colleen) Vela of Lindenhurst, Corina Yearout of Round Lake, and Keith (Teresa) Vela of Round Lake; her grandchildren: Cory (Alli) Vela of Tampa, FL, Tad Vela of Tampa, FL, Nikko Dietz of Ingleside, Caleb (Melissa) Johnson of Wauconda, Cameron Johnson of Lindenhurst, Zoe Johnson of Lindenhurst, Gavin Yearout of Milwaukee, WI, Hannah Yearout of Kenosha, WI, and Samantha Vela of Gurnee; and her great-grandchildren: Gianna Vela of Tampa, FL, and Joshua Johnson of Wauconda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guillermo M. Vela; her son, Guillermo R. Vela; her brothers, Daniel and Jesse Gonzales; her son-in-law, John Yearout; and her grandson, Joshua Johnson.

A Memorial Visitation and Service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville.
