Bruce David Allen Shaw (1953-2025)

Bruce David Allen Shaw, 71 years old, of Lake County, IL died peacefully on June 7, 2025. Bruce was born in Chicago on August 3, 1953 to Joe and Mary Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary; sisters Ilene Shaw and Susan Ekman; brother-in-law Barry Ekman; and the dear dogs he loved so well, Sandie, Tux, and Riley. He is survived by his children Stephanie (Travis) Erickson, Jessica (Shawn) Shaw, and Zachary (Jessica) Shaw; the mother of his children, Judy Johnson; granddaughter Emma Erickson; cousin Fred Kagan; nieces Julie and Lisa Ekman; and nephew David Jimenez-Ekman. In his heyday, you could find him in a pair of cut-off jorts coaching a little league game at the American Legion; tearfully explaining the lyrics of a CSNY or Dead song to a vaguely interested audience; or having a cup of coffee over a crossword puzzle on the porch. As Robert Hunter and Phil Lesh wrote and Bruce lived, “such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be here.”

The memorial visitation and service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 1-1:30pm with the memorial service commencing at 1:30pm, at Strang Funeral Home, located at 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.
