Roger C. Johnson

Roger Carl Johnson, 81, a resident of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away February 10, 2024 at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was born August 20, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, to Arthur and Marion (nee: Widman) Johnson.

He was a graduate of East High School in Rockford, Illinois.  He achieved his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago.  He was an Army Lieutenant and Green Beret who fought in the Vietnam War.  His profession was as an actuary.  At various times, he lived in Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Illinois.  He was an avid bridge player who was fun to be around.  He was an animal lover and was only shortly preceded by his 20-year-old cat Flip.  In his final year, he moved from Sarasota, Florida, up to Illinois to be close to his grandkids who knew him as Papa.

Roger is survived by his sons Nathan (Julia) Johnson of Libertyville, Illinois, and Matthew Johnson who currently resides in the Philippines, his grandchildren Ethan Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, and Zoelle Johnson, and his sister Arlene Rippentrop of Rockford, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Sutley.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd.
