Rita M. Peers

Rita M. Peers, born June 23, 1942, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a unique joy found in the simple pleasures that brightened her days.

Rita was a devoted fan of Roy Orbison, whose music brought an enduring sense of comfort and inspiration to her life. She found great delight in the timeless charm of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with Dopey being her particular favorite character. Her love for cigarettes and coffee was well-known among those close to her, adding to the portrait of a woman who embraced life with particular personal comforts. Beyond these passions, Rita nurtured a tender craft—she loved to crochet, creating with her hands much as she wove kindness and care into the lives of those around her.

For two decades, Rita served diligently as a cashier at the Walmart in Wheeling, where her friendly presence and steady work ethic were appreciated by colleagues and customers alike. Her commitment to hard work is remembered fondly by those who knew her.

Rita’s family and friends will hold onto many cherished memories of her, including a favorite saying that reflects her practical wisdom: “Always remember to watch your speed!” This phrase not only signified her concern for safety but also symbolized the care and attention she offered to everyone in her life.

She is survived by her daughter Lynette, alongside Lynette’s husband Dan Hawkins; her grandchildren Julie and Corey, who carry her legacy forward in their hearts. Rita’s best friend, Ilene Wold, also remains a steadfast presence of support and remembrance.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles; her sister, Karen; and her parents, whose memories live on through the family she so lovingly sustained.

A visitation will be held on April 7, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Strang Funeral Chapel, located at 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at the same location from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. These gatherings will offer an opportunity to honor Rita’s life, share stories, and find comfort in the company of those who cherished her. Please then join us for dinner at Lake Forest Academy.
