Richard Baum, a long-time resident of Grayslake, IL passed away on September 24, 2025 at the age of 84. Richard and his wife, Corrine, were Grayslake business owners in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They owned Richie’s Kitchen (now known as Whitney Street Inn). It was frequented by sports legends, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita. Richard and his brother, Billy were also part owners of the original Off Center Pizza where they invented the Ram Sandwich, a local favorite. Next, he opened Richie’s Pizza (later Richie’s Sandwich Shop) in Mundelein and ran it until the mid-1980’s. He eventually returned to his original career as a butcher, first with Parkway/Pik Kwik, and finally with Piggly Wiggly (now Butera). Many of his patrons remember him being friendly, helpful and always giving them the best cuts of meat. In his retirement, he spent many years traveling with his family, golfing, and creating memorable moments with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be dearly missed.
Richard is survived by his sons, Scott (Carol), and Rob (Peggy); his grandchildren, Jill (Matt), Kim, Robbie (Lynlee), and Andy; 3 great grandchildren; and his sisters, MaryAnne, Carol, and Diane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corrine; his siblings, Angie, Johnny, Frankie, Billy, and Larry; and his parents.
