Michael J. Rink, 71, of Grayslake, IL, passed away on October 6, 2025 at his home. He was born on May 15, 1954 in Joliet, IL.

Mike was known for his lifelong enthusiasm for sports, animals, and the things he believed in. A proud graduate of Joliet Catholic Academy, he remained a dedicated supporter of JCA football throughout his life, rarely missing a game and always keeping up with the team’s progress.

In his younger years, Mike was a talented athlete, playing both baseball and basketball with grit and competitive spirit—particularly excelling on the basketball court. His love for the game endured into adulthood as a passionate Duke basketball fan, faithfully following the Blue Devils each season. In his early adult life, Mike was deeply involved in dog breeding and showing, and his dedication to his dogs was a defining part of his identity. Mike was also a true Chicago sports fan through and through, never wavering in his loyalty to the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks.

Professionally, Mike built a long and successful career at GMAC, where he worked for 32 years. He started as a repo man and worked his way up to an executive role within Finance for the company—a journey that reflected his work ethic and resilience. He often reflected on being “just a lucky guy from Joliet” He retired in 2007 and enjoyed the years that followed with a well-earned sense of pride.

In 1993, Mike moved his family to Grayslake, Illinois, where he spent the next three decades in the same home from the time it was newly built. He took immense pride in his house and personally crafted the landscape over the years, creating a yard admired by the entire neighborhood. Though his relationships were sometimes complex, Mike will be remembered for his strong opinions, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to the things he cared about most.

Michael is survived by his wife, Tina; his children, Ryan (Betty) of Crystal Lake, Ashley (Matt) McLaughlin of Nashville, TN, and Shawn (Ericka) of Gurnee; and his siblings, Barb Meagher of Virginia, and Chris (Renee) of Plainfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tommy and Packy; and his sister, Eileen.
