Maria R Martinez

Maria R. Martinez, 90, a resident of Hebron, IL, passed away on October 17, 2026. She was born on October 18, 1935 in Harlingen, Texas to Antonio and Maria Ramos.

Maria was a mom for over 70 years and a grandma for almost 60 years. She was loving, caring, and always there for anyone who needed her. She made sure you had something to eat, crocheted blankets for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, and if you were lucky, shared stories of herself as a young girl in Texas making countless tortillas with her sisters for her parents and 12 siblings. She had all the qualities that moms and grandmas are known for while also being one-of-a-kind. She had a personality and spirit that was unlike anyone else. She was witty and funny, but incapable of nonsense. She worked hard, harder than most, and did not expect recognition. For her, it was just what you do for those you love. She gave all she had to her family and friends and she did it in her own way. Memories of her will be shared by all who knew her for many years to come and the legacy of working hard and being loyal and caring for the people you love will not be forgotten.

Maria is survived by her children, John J (Dotti) Martinez, Dalia Martinez, and Ricardo (Johanna) Martinez; her seven grandchildren; her seven great grandchildren, and three siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donato V. Martinez; her son, Donato; and nine siblings.

A Funeral Service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 12pm. A Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Monday from 10am until the time of service. Interment will be held at Avon Centre Cemetery.
