John J Barthel

John J. Barthel Sr., a resident of Round Lake Heights, Illinois, passed away at the age of 64 at Condell hospital in Libertyville, Illinois. He was born on December 9, 1961, in Denver, Colorado to Curtis and Regina (nee Riley) Barthel.

John was a proud Chicago sports fan, an avid fisherman, a hard worker, and, to anyone who didn’t know him, a pretty intimidating guy. But underneath that tough exterior was a man with a big heart and an even bigger love for his family. He loved being a Dad and Grandpa. Spending time on his boat was one of his favorite things to do. Most days he was completely content watching any Cubs, Bears or Blackhawks game on the couch, or sitting on his front porch bird and squirrel watching. John will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

John is survived by his children, Heather (James) Whelan of Michigan, John Barthel Jr. of Round Lake Heights, Regina (Derrek) Feltner of Lake Villa, and Jessica Barthel of Round Lake Heights; his grandchildren, Emelia, Derrek, Riley, Benjamin, and Remi.

He is also survived by his six brothers; Curtis, Timothy, Marco, Terrance, Andrew and Matthew Barthel.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters; Stephanie, Jeannie, Margie, and Liz.
