Joan M. Hewlett

Joan Marie Hewlett, 83, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away August 16, 2025, at Alto Grayslake senior living community.  She was born June 26, 1942 in Batavia, New York to Willard and Marion (nee: Hopfinger) Hewlett.

She achieved her bachelor's degree in biology from Cornell University and her PhD in biology from Northwestern University.  Her profession was an electron microscopist.  At various times she lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Ohio, and Illinois.  After retiring she moved from Ohio to Illinois to be near her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her sons Nathan (Julia) Johnson of Libertyville, Illinois, and Matthew Johnson who currently resides in the Philippines and her grandchildren Ethan Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, and Zoelle Johnson.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Susan Lowans.
