Harry H. Swieca, Jr. age 75, died on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Alta Rehab in Wauconda, IL. He was born in Chicago to Harry and Helen Swieca. He grew up in the Damen and Armitage area of Chicago and attended Tuley High School, graduating in 1968. While at Tuley, Harry played the trumpet in a Drum and Bugle Corp and spent summers touring with the group. After graduation Harry worked as a machinist and then moved to a Tool and Die company (Speedfam) in Des Plaines. In the early 1980’s, Harry also served as an assistant Scout Master for a troop in Morton Grove. He loved boating from childhood and owned several boats during his life. He decided to change careers and began working as a Marine Surveyor in the Great Lakes region and was able to spend many years surveying boats of all sizes. In 1980, he met Barbara and they were married 4 years later. Harry and Barbara celebrated their 40th anniversary last December. Harry continued his passion for boating, and he and Barbara had a boat on the Chain O Lakes and then they bought a bigger boat and they moved to Lake Michigan. They continued to be part of the boating family at North Point Marina. Harry continued surveying until he retired in 2013. Since then, he has enjoyed his retirement and became involved with the RC Flying Club at Saddlebrook when he and Barbara moved in 2005.
Harry is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sister, Angie (Angel) Zeno; his brother-in-law, Lee Sobier; his nephews, Andy and Austin of Michigan, his nieces, Jackie and Janet of Ohio. Harry loved his family and they will miss him greatly.
Harry’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1pm until 5pm at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Illinois Chapter (www.ALZ.org).
