Edward J. Baumeister, 85, a resident of Park City, IL, passed away on September 24, 2025 at Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Burlington, WI to Edward and Dorothy Baumeister.
Edward (also known as Bud or Sonny) passed away surrounded by family. He was a devoted husband to Linda for nearly 64 years, a proud father to Brenda, a loving grandfather to Sara, and a caring great-grandfather to Chloe.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served 11 years during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War, leaving the service to embrace his greatest calling—fatherhood. Over the years, he worked as a Texaco owner/manager, farm equipment manager, self-employed painter, and over-the-road truck driver.
He was a lifelong fan of NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, and the Chicago Cubs, and enjoyed Cribbage, Euchre, pool, and classic country music from artists like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Hank Williams Sr. Known for his generosity, he often “took in strays,” offering help to anyone in need.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his humor, his love of music and games, and his unwavering kindness.
Edward is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda; his daughter, Brenda (Jason) Cranmer of Gurnee, IL; his granddaughter, Sara (Kyle) Whitmer of Lake Villa, IL; his great granddaughter, Chloe Lee Whitmer; and his siblings, Richard, Sandie (Tony), Roger (Cindy), Terry (Bob); and sister-in-law, Cindy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Carol, Marge, Dale, Arnie, Danny, Ginny (Larry), and Wally.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV). All arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. For more information, please call (847)223-8122 or visit www.StrangFuneral.org.
