Don R. Cugier, 89, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away peacefully and entered eternal life on August 30, 2025, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. Don was born on December 27, 1935, to Harry and Alice Cugier. Don was a member of the Illinois National Guard. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, fine-craft artisan, and had a wide variety of interests including a love of travel. A unique personality trait was his “Gift of Gab” in which he could make even strangers, feel seen and heard. He could make anyone feel welcomed and allowed an ease of back & forth conversation without being overpowering. Don of course, sharing his sound advice. Mostly though he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cugier, of 64 years whom he married on March 18, 1961, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, IL; his children, Debra (James) Markley of Gurnee and David Cugier of Winthrop Harbor, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Cliff Jones; and his twin brother, Jon Cugier.
A visitation on September 11, 2025, starting at 10:00am will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00am at Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 32475 N Alleghany Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will be held privately at Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Evangelical Church.
