Dean Peter Tragos, 67, mostly known as “Papou” of Fox Lake, Illinois, passed away on April 17, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, to Peter and Aphrodite Tragos.
Dean was a man whose life was defined by connection—to his family, his friends, and especially to his grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He took immense pride and joy in being a grandfather, and nothing meant more to him than the time he spent with Aiden, Chloe, Charlotte, Taylor, Leyton, and Claire. Whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply being present, Dean created lasting memories that will live on in their hearts forever.
Known for his easygoing nature and generous spirit, Dean had a remarkable ability to bring people together. He built lifelong friendships wherever he went and was the kind of person others naturally gravitated toward. His warmth, humor, and genuine kindness made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Dean is survived by his children, Brandel (Justin) Wicinski; Larry (Kasey) Gempp; Peter (Nicole) Tragos and their mother Susan Tragos as well as his six beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Terri (Ed) Levina, many dear friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.
A Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately.
