Yolitzma Garrido, 65, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away January 1, 2026, at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL, surrounded by family. She was born July 10,1960 in Chicago, IL to Gilberto and Hilda Garrido.

Yo dedicated her life to caring for others, from her early career as a nurse to her role as the heart of the Garrido family. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen and safe, whether they were patients, friends, or complete strangers. Yolitzma loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Laughter followed her wherever she went, and her friendships were lifelong, loyal, and full of joy.

Above all else, Yolitzma loved her family. She was a constant source of support, encouragement, and unconditional love. Being a sister, daughter, aunt, godmother and friend brought her immense pride and happiness, and her family always knew they were her heart.

She will be remembered for her constant smile, her selflessness, her unwavering care for others, and the love she gave so freely. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the light she brought into our lives and the countless ways she made the world better simply by being in it.

Yolitzma is survived by her sisters, Terhilda (Eric Shaqfeh) Garrido, Annabella (Jude Fischer) Garrido, and Oralia (Michael McCarthy) Garrido; and her nieces and nephews, Dylan (Katie Trent) Fischer, Stefan Garrido-Shaqfeh, Zoie (Nick) Prudenzano, Elena (Matthew Breuer) Garrido, Owen McCarthy, Colin (Nicole Godellas) McCarthy, and Powell McCarthy. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation and funeral service are scheduled for January 10, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 3:00 pm until 4:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 4 PM. Interment will be held privately.
