Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Virginia Ann Girmscheid (Swinea), deeply loved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 60 following a tragic accident. While we deeply mourn her absence on this earth, we rejoice in the assurance that she is now in heaven, where there is no pain, sorrow, or suffering.

Ginny was born on July 1, 1965, in Highland Park, Illinois, to Harold and Penny Swinea. She studied accounting at the University of Illinois and used that degree to serve nonprofit organizations, including Stepping Stones Network, where she served as CFO until the time of her passing.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Timothy Girmscheid, and seven children: Savannah Girmscheid, John (Lura) Girmscheid, Megan (Hannah) Frazee, Ava (James) Girmscheid, Micah Girmscheid, Jacob Girmscheid, and Elizabeth Girmscheid. She is also survived by her mother, Penny Swinea, her siblings, Steve Swinea, Jennifer Swinea, Amy (Shawn) McBride, and Joesph Swinea, her nieces and nephews, and her sweet granddaughter, Sophie.

Ginny lived a life of self-sacrifice, emanating joy amidst all circumstances. She loved people fiercely, never passing up the opportunity to encourage each person she met with God’s love and truth. Mother of seven, she was an unstoppable force with seemingly endless energy. Her strength and determination remained evident throughout her courageous battle with cancer. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering, and every action, every conversation, every decision was steeped in prayer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Fierce Church, 954 W. Brae Loch Road, Grayslake, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by a celebration service at 5:00 p.m. Dinner and fellowship will be shared afterward. Please dress comfortably and colorfully to reflect the joy of Ginny’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Compassion International or Samaritan’s Purse.

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
