Suzanne (“Sue”) Oehrlein passed away peacefully at her home in Lake Villa, Illinois on March 21, 2026, at the age of 84. She was the beloved wife of 44 years to Burke Oehrlein.

Sue was born on May 30, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois to Wilfred and Maralynn Young. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Stephen Young.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband Burke; her siblings Richard and James; her children Laureen (David) McParlane, Victoria Jones, Ashley (Josh) Lindstrom, and Paul (Sarah) Oehrlein; and her cherished grandchildren Kaitlyn, Emily, David, Matthew, Connor, Michael, Lydia, Bethany, Ella, Kate, Henry, William, and Oliver. Sue’s children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life.

Sue dedicated much of her life to serving others. She was a devoted Girl Scout volunteer for 42 years, proudly serving as a leader for each of her three daughters. She lived by the words, “Make new friends, but keep the old—one is silver and the other gold.” She also served on the board of the School District 62 Foundation for 18 years and was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter HL.

Sue worked as a CPA for 40 years alongside her husband Burke in their accounting business, where she was respected for her dedication and professionalism.

A private memorial service will be held in April for close family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s honor to the First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines, Illinois.
