Sandra J. Sander, 89, a resident of North Chicago, IL, passed away May 9, 2026, at her home. She was born March 9, 1937, in Mc Cook, NE, to Hans and Iona Horacek.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dale Sander, her children Kelli Sander, Grant (Loretta) Sander, and Kurt (Maria) Sander, her grandchildren Drew Sander, Stephanie Sander, Angela (Thomas Zach) Garza, and William Sander, and her great-grandchildren Jessica Garza, Thomas Jay Garza, Theodore Garza, and Elizabeth Garza. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sandra received her B.S.in Nursing from the University of Colorado and a Masters Degree in Public Health from George Williams College. She had a long career in nursing including positions with the Guam Memorial Village Health Clinics, St. Therese hospital in Waukegan, Lake County Health Department and home health agencies. She finished her career on the faculty of the nursing program at the College of Lake County.

Sandra enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping, bowling, rodeos and time with friends and family. She was a Cubs fan and enjoyed any chance to get to Wrigley Field or Milwaukee to see them when they played there.

A memorial service is scheduled for May 29, 2026 at Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church 5725 Stearns School Road Gurnee, IL 60031. A gathering will begin at 10:00 am followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am. The service can be viewed on Zoom with the following link. Interment will be held privately.
