Richard J Bahnsen

Richard Joseph Bahnsen, 75, a resident of Third Lake, IL, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1951 in Cleveland, OH to Anne (nee Mazzolini) and Norman Bahnsen. He graduated from Miami University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He enjoyed a long and successful career in packaging sales.

Rich is survived by his wife of 52 years, Holly (nee Hough); his children, Brooke (Rob) Bahnsen of Vernon Hills, IL and Marc (Leah) Bahnsen of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Miles and Simone Bahnsen of Chicago, IL; his siblings, Jim (Jay) Bahnsen of Lancaster, OH, Tom (Dena) Bahnsen of Dover, DE, and Christine (Rob) Royal of Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada; nieces, nephews, extended family, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norm and Anne Bahnsen.

Rich will be remembered for his sharp wit, storytelling ability, and non-judgmental character. Rich loved good tunes, especially smooth jazz. Next time you are fishing, playing a round of golf, or eating a good dessert please take a moment to recall how much Rich enjoyed life.

The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by Northwestern Hospital in Lake Forest, IL and Integrated Palliative and Hospice in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Steady Boxing or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. A celebration of life will take place in Ohio this July.
