Obituary

Mary Ann Andrews, 90, a resident of Round Lake, IL, passed away June 5, 2026 at the Cottages of Fox Lake.

A sunny, Summer afternoon. Freshly washed laundry swaying in the breeze, clasped with wooden clothespins onto the thin metal rows of a spin around clothesline. The pleasant scent of a newly mowed lawn: A fond, vivid, very early memory of Mom and I in the backyard of our Elk Grove Village, IL. home (Tammy Littleton).

On October 18th, 1935, Mary Ann Tomko was born in her Chicago home. She would later be the big (and only) sister of three brothers: Ed, Bill, and Joe. As a 10 year old, Mary Ann was given the responsibility to board a Chicago street car with her 5 year old brother, Ed, to attend their Polish and accordion lessons. Very Responsible and intelligent, she helped take car of her brothers; and at 16, at the end of her school day and after cheer-leading and choir practice at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Academy, mom went off to work at Chicago Rawhide. It was there that a young handsome, Jack Andrews was gathering blueprints on one floor of the building, and when he looked down upon the floor below, he saw Mom. They married on September 3rd, 1955. On November 9th, 1956, her son, Darrel was born; and on July 18th 1960, her daughter, Tammy, was born. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, 276 Holly Lane, Elk Grove Village, Illinois was their home. These were also the years of growing up with cousins, holidays and regular visits with her parents took precedence as well. Cherished memories of Grandma Tomko's phenomenal homemade Thanksgiving dinners.  Mary Ann and her sisters would also take turns hosting holidays; all were excellent cooks.

Throughout these years and onward, Mary Ann's exceptional work ethic and intelligence were rewarded with promotions and exciting travel during her sales career. She enjoyed and acquired fine art pieces, and European glass pieces. In the late 1980's, and after having lived in a few other states, Mary Ann moved back to Illinois to be near her family and grandchildren. These years were filled with celebrating holidays, birthdays, grandchildren's events and so much more.

Mary Ann's love for Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, who was canonized on April 30th, 2000, was well known to family. Now our family matriarch, our mother, has been gently and peacefully carried up the stairway to heaven. She can walk in gardens of Gardenia flowers (her favorite), and reside amongst loved ones before her. Mary Ann is also united with her baby grandson angel: Wesley Andrew Littleton.

Mary Ann is survived by her children Daniel Andrews and Tammy (Thomas) Littleton, her grandchildren Leah (Joseph) Pilon, Lisa Andrews, Lance Littleton, and Jacob Andrews, and her brother Joseph Tomko. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Edward and William.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N Wilson Rd, Ingleside, IL 60041, on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 10am.
