Obituary

Mark T. Reinert, 70, a resident of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away May 26, 2026 at his home. Mark was a proud community member of, and raised his family in, Lake Forest, IL for 44 years. He was born October 17, 1955 in Chicago, IL to Anthony "Tony" and Rita Reinert.

Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years, Eileen Wonders Reinert, his children Anthony (Becky) Reinert, Gregory (Sarah) Reinert, Marlene (Micah) Reinert, his siblings George (Jan) Reinert and Anthony "Red" (Karen) Riffer-Reinert, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Donna Russell and Maribeth Reinert, and his loving companion Herschel Tiberius.

Mark grew up in Back of the Yards, Chicago. Mark met the love of his life, Eileen, in 1975, achieving 50 years of knowing and loving one another. Mark and Eileen had three kids that they supported endlessly on every creative project and death-defying adventure with selfless and unconditional love. There was no one faster to volunteer to drive his kids across the country than Mark.

Mark was a strong force of nature. Everyone knew when he walked into the room they were going have a good time. Mark was an animated storyteller, getting his listeners to hang on to every word, no matter how many times they heard the story. Mark took pride in being an Eagle Scout and mentored both of his sons towards achieving their Eagle Ranks and his daughter towards her Girl Scout Gold.

Mark spent many summers at Owasippe Scout Reservation in Michigan and Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation in Wisconsin. Mark had a lot of great times at "the cabin" in Hayward, Wisconsin. Many evenings with friends and family were spent around the fire, fishing and paddling on the Chippewa River, thus creating the stories that Mark loved to share. Mark was a strong advocate for his family and friends, and he was often found coming to their rescue, providing a listening ear, a helping hand, and advice (both solicited and unsolicited).

Mark was a renowned Funeral Director and Embalmer, starting his career in 1976 as a graduate of Worsham College and retiring in 2022. As an entrepreneur, Mark started and sold five businesses including Lakewood Crematory, Reinert-Wonders Services, Inc, and an apartment complex. He took pride in his work of stewarding people through their end-of-life journeys and was well known for his trusted and specialized embalming skill set.

Throughout his life, Mark loved visiting his children around the country, especially in Las Vegas and Alaska. Mark paddled over 1,000 miles with his children from the Mississippi River to remote rivers in Alaska and Canada. Mark tinkered with a multitude of old cars, to include Porche 914s, Ford Mustangs, and Chevy Corvettes; he could often be found attending car shows all over the Midwest. It was a great honor to have received a silver dollar from Mark. In his retirement, Mark found a love for gardening, home improvement projects, traveling, gathering with his loved ones, and he was a passionate stock market investor.

A memorial visitation and service are scheduled for June 6, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd.
