Lawrence "Larry" G. Scott

Lawrence "Larry" G. Scott, 76, a resident of Round Lake, IL, passed away September 10, 2026 at his home. He was born June 2, 1950 in Waukegan, IL to George and Dorothy Scott.

Larry is survived by his wife Stefanie Scott, whom he wed on August 3, 2002 at Fort Hill Acres, Round Lake, IL, his children Matthew Scott (Hilary), Greg Scott, and Samantha Scott Letto (Wesley), his grandchildren Max Scott, Katy Scott, and Hannah Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Angela Scott.

Larry enlisted in the United States Army Reserves after graduating from Grayslake Central High School in 1968 and served until 1975. During and after his years of service, he worked as a union carpenter and Superintendent for Eric Bolander Construction. He later became Building Commissioner of Round Lake Park, followed by starting his own business, “Old School Customs” by Fairfield Larry, restoring classic cars.

In his off time, he played pool leagues at PJ’s Park Inn where many memories were made, and laughs were shared.

To those who knew Larry, he was larger than life and loved helping others. He used his strong ties to the community to make it a better place for the people of Lake County, especially the children. 

Larry was a man who could do just about anything. He was a jack of all trades and wore many hats throughout his life, but his favorite was a cowboy hat.

He was a proud member of the Lake County Mounted Posse, serving club president in 1996 and again in 2002. Larry supported the local 4-H clubs for many years and loved helping all the 4-H’ers, including his children, at the Lake County Fair. Helping others wasn't something he did, it was apart of who he was.

Larry created a home for not only his family, but for everyone at his farm. He accepted all walks of life and tried to help everyone be the best versions of themselves- even when they couldn’t see it; he could.

He was a dreamer and always looked towards his adventure, project, and accomplishment. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed competing in truck pulling competitions with his infamous “Empty Pockets” 1975 Chevy Step Side. In 2019, he won Grand Champion in horseback riding at the Special Olympics. Later, in 2021, he traveled to the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, where he competed in the veterans’ class, Hero’s on Horses, and brought home another Grand Champion title. 

He took great pride in his 55 Chevy, had a deep love and passion for horses, and above all, truly cherished and adored his family. In his later years, he spent time with family and friends around the farm, watched Monday night bowling at Lakes Bowl, rode therapeutically at Hooves to Heal, and drove the mini horse, Gunther, at Operation Wild Horse.

He will not only be remembered for the life he lived, but for the people’s lives he touched, and were better because of him.

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the funeral chapel at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Avon Centre Cemetery in Grayslake, IL. Following the cemetery, the Scott family asks everyone to join them at the Scott Farm 33008 N Fairfield Rd. Round Lake, IL 60073 for a celebration of Larry's life.
