Jason Cappert 47, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away July 27, 2026 at his home. He was born on April 18, 1979, in South Bend, Indiana, to Jerry and Sherry Cappert. He arrived alongside his two brothers, Jimmy and Jeff—and yes, that's right, Jason was a triplet. Four years later, the family welcomed his younger sister, Stephanie, completing the Cappert crew.

The family spent the early years of their childhood in Texas, where they formed friendships that have stood the test of time and remain important to them today. During Jason's elementary and junior high years, the family moved back to Lake County, Illinois, where he would spend the rest of his childhood.

As a young man, Jason pursued a career in emergency services and attended school to become a paramedic. He eventually joined the Grayslake Fire Department, where he proudly served his community. Unfortunately, his career as a paramedic was cut short by what those who know him best would affectionately call his "lead foot." It turns out that driving an ambulance and collecting moving violations don't make the best combination.

After leaving the fire service, Jason found his calling in the automotive industry. What began as a career change quickly became a profession in which his personality, work ethic, and ability to connect with people enabled him to thrive.

In his early twenties, Jason met Erika. After just six months of dating, he knew he had found the one and proposed. A year later, they were married and began building the life they had always dreamed of together. Over the years, they welcomed four beautiful children: Riley, Wyatt, Ben, and Collin.

Jason worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He believed in giving his children every opportunity possible and worked hard to make sure they had everything they needed—and quite a few things they wanted. Family always came first.

In 2023, Jason was forced to step away from work due to his illness. While his career ended earlier than anyone would have hoped, the qualities that defined him never changed.

Jason has always been a loving son and brother, a loyal husband, a dedicated father, a hard worker, and a lighthearted friend. He never met a stranger, and his philosophy was always "the more, the merrier" when it came to gathering family and friends together.

When it came to spending money on experiences, vacations, celebrations, or helping the people he loved, Jason's favorite saying was, "It's just money. I can always make more." To him, memories were worth far more than dollars.

His approach to life has always been carefree and positive. He is quick with a smile, generous with his time, and always willing to lend an ear or offer a helping hand. Whether someone needed advice, support, a laugh, or simply a friend, Jason was there.

Above all else, Jason's greatest gift has been his capacity to love. His love for his family, friends, and those around him knows no bounds. The countless lives he has touched are a testament to the kind of man he is—one whose kindness, humor, generosity, and unwavering love will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jason is survived by his wife, Erika Cappert, his children Riley, Wyatt, Ben, and Collin, parents Gerald and Sheryl Cappert, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Steve Ehlert and Karin (Bill Upton) Robison, his siblings Jeff (Donna Reed) Cappert, Jimmy (Becky) Cappert, and Stephanie (Morgan) Shipley, her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Alex (Wallis) Ehlert, Leigh (Jake) Braunhold, and Mike Breitenfellner, and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Red and Rosie Long and his Grandpa and Grandma Cappert.

A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 2:00pm until 6:00pm with the service commencing at 6:00pm. Interment will be held privately.
