DeWayne H. Schau, 78, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away August 28, 2026 at Arden Courts of Northbrook in Northbrook, IL. He was born January 12, 1948 in Denison, IA to Herbert and Hilda Schau. 

He first worked in the grocery business in both Iowa and Illinois where he enjoyed getting to know customers. It was the grocery business that led him to his wife Linda who he met when delivering groceries to St. John’s Lutheran School in Charter Oak, IA. They were married at St. John’s on January 3rd of 1975. After beginning their family in Iowa they moved to Aurora, IL where they lived for over 30 years raising their 2 sons. He finished his career managing a wholesale plumbing warehouse in Aurora where he worked with many wonderful people. He enjoyed spending tine with family/friends, bowling, and working in his yard. He spent many good years in retirement with his wife, children and grandchildren. Prior to moving to Grayslake he was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran church and the 3rd Ward Social Club both in Aurora. He was diagnosed with Dementia in 2021 and moved to Arden Courts when he was unable to care for himself. His time there was marked by the dedicated staff who took care of him.

DeWayne is survived by his sons Matthew (Kelley) Schau and Nathan (Melissa) Schau, his grandchildren Emily Schau, Hannah Schau, Marleigh Schau, Lennon Schau, Dylan Schau, and Stevie Schau, and his brothers Merlin (Jennifer) Schau, Ron Schau, and Gary (Linda) Schau. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda Schau, and his brothers Dennis and Kenneth Schau.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service will held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
