Alex K. Mayfield, 54, a resident of Hainesville, IL, passed away December 26, 2025 at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL. He was born May 12, 1971 in Evanston, IL to Frank and Marynell Mayfield.

Alex is survived by his wife of 30 years, Julie Mayfield, his parents Frank and Marynell Mayfield, and his siblings Matt (Tomoko) Mayfield and Jean (Kevin) Schmit-Gill. He was a loving father to his daughters, Georgia Mayfield and Anneliese Mayfield.

Alex earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2005 from The John Marshall Law School (now UIC Law), where he studied Intellectual Property.

Alex was an owner of JM Irrigation in Volo, Illinois for the past 18 years. A dedicated and hard-working man, Alex built not only a successful business, but also established himself as a highly respected leader in the Green Industry. He previously served as Chair of the ILCA, and worked tirelessly to promote sustainability efforts, as well as legislation to lift up the irrigation industry by improving best practices. Alex was a trainer, educator, advocate, colleague, and friend to those he worked with. He will truly be missed by his work family at JM Irrigation.

Alex had a love of life, his family and friends. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time on Lake Michigan with his family. Alex had a great sense of humor, and could light up a room with his smile. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him. 

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2026 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. A memorial mass is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Mary Parish 10 N. Buffalo Grove Rd. Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. Interment will be held privately.
