Albert G. Sparrow, 83, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away January 10, 2026, at his home. He was born November 16, 1942, in Bethlehem, PA to Albert and Irene Sparrow.
Al was the beloved husband of Vicki Sparrow, father of Cathy Christensen, Jeff Sparrow, and Gloria Sparrow, grandfather of Kyle Christensen, Cody Christensen, Kelly Christensen, Mya Sparrow, and Kellen Herspold, and the brother of Diana (Bill) Sparrow Walton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki and his parents.
During his lifetime he was a member of the Jaycees, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Lions International. He was also a sustaining member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association, the US Army Signal Corps OCS Association, and was a member of the Brunswick Ohio High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. He served as an Army Officer in Vietnam and was a Bronze Star Medal Recipient.
He traveled extensively, visiting all 50 States and more than 20 countries on multiple continents. His favorite trips included a a two-week, two-man Alaska Excursion with his father, a trip to Italy, where he visited his grandfather's birthplace, and an expedition cruise of the Peruvian Amazon with his wife. He loved music and collected vinyl recordings his entire life. He especially loved Blues and enjoyed attending the Chicago Blues Festivals. Al also loved good food and was an informal connoisseur of hand-made cigars, fine wine, good bourbon, and oysters.
Al's last corporate position was a President of a plastics molding company. He had a 40 year career that included technologies varied from electronics, machining, heat treating, assembly and plastics and included numerous different customers on behalf of the companies he worked for, led project management teams on building facilities for some of these companies.
Al spent his retirement years enjoying, his family and spending time watching his grandchildren participate in music and athletic endeavors. He chose to live life with passion and variety.
A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm with a funeral service commencing at 7:00pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Grayslake VFW 2245 https://vfw2245.org/di/vfw/v2/default.asp.
