  3. My Mom, Loretta Donnellon Metz, was Rose-Marie’s cousin. Mom had a photo of Rose-Marie and after Mom passed away, I thought her family might like. I went hunting to find someone I might send it to (their family had moved to Chicago in the 1920’s). I had no idea, when I started the search, that she was still living. I gave her a call and I told her who I was, that my Mom had been Loretta Donnellon, and she said that her Mom had a sister named Loretta Donnellon (that’s my Grandma). I explained that Mom was the daughter and she said, “Oh, little Loretta” which just cracked me up – of course, Mom would have been called that since she shared her mother’s name. I had to laugh too because neither Mom or Grandma had much in the height department.

Talking further, she told me she was born on the same day as one of my uncles (“Mother always said she and her sister had babies on the same day”) and, sure enough, she and my Uncle Ed Donnellon were born on March 22, 1924. Finally, I discovered that her name wasn’t Rose Marie as a first name, middle name, but rather Rose-Marie Ellen Pfiester – her middle name was the same as Mom’s, both named after their grandmother Ellen Forbes.

RIP, Rosie. I’m glad I got to know you at the end. It was a delight reconnected with family that had moved away from Cincinnati so long ago. Prayers to our second cousins and all from your Kroger/Donnellon cousins down here in the old hometown.

    1. Hi Joe,

I apologize for the late response. I would love to connect. Mom shared your letters and pictures with me. We both loved the history. I believe through this communication you will receive my e-mail. If not, please feel free to contact Strang Funeral Home and they can share my contact information with you.

God Bless you and your family,

      Mickie Gordon (Rosie’s daughter).

  4. My condolences to Rose-Marie’s family. She was my Mom’s cousin and I got to know her towards the end of her life. Glad to have reconnected with her after I sent her a picture my late mother had in her photos. Prayers to her family.

  5. So difficult to lose a loved one. Mrs. Sopko was a wonderful, kind, giving person. I have such fond memories of spending time at the house and on the lake. Sending caring thoughts.
