Obituary's Biography:

Clayton Ernest “Ernie” Swanson, 84, born October 24, 1930 in Chicago, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 2, 2015. Survived by beloved wife, Jeanette “Jan” (nee: Haag), whom he married on May 17, 1958; proud father of Karen (Phil) Caplis, Jim (Julie), Don (Barb), Bill (Anne) and Mary (Craig) Meyer; cherished grandfather of Michelle, Eric, Rachel, Katie, Mark, Matt, Kelly, Luke, Kevin, Nicole, and Nate; dear brother of the late William (Betty), the late Donald (the late Lorraine), the late Lucille “Toots” (William) O’Hara, and Robert (Karolyn); dear brother-in-law of Suzanne “Sue” (the late Ronald) Heinzel and Mary Ann “Mickie” Haag; and dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Ernie was kind and good hearted man. He enjoyed golfing and playing pinochle with his brothers, working crossword puzzles, making fudge to share with friends and family and traveling throughout the U.S. with Jan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Formerly of Des Plaines and North Center area of Chicago where he actively supported the Neighborhood Boys Club. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and a member of the Local 73 Sheet Metal Union. He was a lifelong Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd.(Rte 120) Grayslake, IL 60030. A family gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 10:00am at the funeral chapel and will be followed with a funeral mass at 11:00am at the old church at St. Mary of Annunciation 22333 W. Erhart Rd. Mundelein, IL. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery located next to the small chapel.   1. While I have not seen Mr Swanson in more than 20 years, I still remember him and the lovely family he and Mrs Swanson raised. He was a good man and will be missed. Our thoughts are with you.

  3. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Aunt Jan, Jimmy,Karen,Don,Billy and Mary. Uncle Ernie will be missed. Always there to make us laugh..he loved life and loved his family, he always talked to me about his beloved grandchildren. My mom would always tell us how protective he was of his family..He tried many times to try to teach me how to make his famous fudge and peanut butter candy. A lot of lbs of candy went from Illinois to New Jersey over the years. I never left Chicago without some. Love to you all, wish I could be there with you.
